Peavey XXX 1x12

I am looking at the Peavey xxx 1x12 for a practice amp and hopefuly soon for band practice. I was just wondering what your guy's opinons on the amp were and if it is a good idea or not to buy it off of eBay? I have been also looking at the Vox Ad50vt, and wondering it it makes more sense for me to buy that amp instead?

I have been playing for about a 1 year and a 1/2 and I play metal. I have played both amps and like the distortion on both of them but the peavey distortion, I think, sounds a little better.

never tried the 1x12, but i love my 2x12. go for it. a year and a half after i started playing is when i bought mine too. i have absolutely no knowledge of buying amps from ebay, so i cant help you there

I have not tried this amp but I have some samples from the big momma XXX head and I am not crazy about it. It has really thick distortion, and loud but presence gets lost and the tones feel really fake. I much prefer the Ashdown Fallen Angel 40 instead of the XXX 1x12. It has the same amounts of gain (monstruous) but better tone characteristics, great cleans too. BUT as I said I have NO personal experience with peavey XXX so.....

The XXX is the valve one right?

I've played the Peavey Xsomething valve 1x12, and didn't think much to it. The cleans were a bit dull and the distortion had a fizzy edge to it I didn't like... Saying that I don't think 1x12's cut it for metal in the first place.

You'd want a 2x12 minimum to get a decent metal tone if you want to cut it in a band... IMO :)

youre propbably thinking of the XXL, thats the SS one, and i dont like it much either
