pedal cable kits planet waves vs. george L

Just Ultimate Slacker
anybody know any good or bad about either of these ? I plan to get one or the other (I just bought 2 more jumpers today at $8 each, and then realized I need a third) so rather than spend $24 on 3 cables I figure I will go ahead and get a cable kit. Also, can hyou get extra connectors for the George L ?

Re: pedal cable kits planet waves vs. george L

I just got a planet waves kit from GC for $45. (I also bought a DC Brick power supply). The PW sent together pretty easy but I think the George L's would be better if you're working in tight spaces because of the smaller wire and less obtrussive right angle jacks. With that said the PW one is working fine.

Re: pedal cable kits planet waves vs. george L

I have not tried the GL's but the Planet waves worked well for me.

Re: pedal cable kits planet waves vs. george L

I tried GL a while back... personally I had trouble getting the GL's cable to fit in the plugs right and getting a good connection. I went to Planet Waves maybe a year ago and they've held up magnificently through a lot of abuse. No problems whatsoever. Great product!

Re: pedal cable kits planet waves vs. george L

is there a lot of noise issue regarding pedal cables??

planet waves seems awesome and alot more available than george l..since you can pick one up at any sam ash or guitar center..

i think i might get a planet wave kit

Re: pedal cable kits planet waves vs. george L

I'm also interested in upgrading my crappy pedal connectors to somthing better. How far apart would you have to put two boss pedals (for example) if they were stuck side by side? How much larger are the planet waves cable ends than the George Ls?

Re: pedal cable kits planet waves vs. george L

I trust george L's totally. Could be snake oil, but why not do the best you can for those little signal jumps...You're worth it!

Re: pedal cable kits planet waves vs. george L

I've been using George L's for years BUT I'll also say in the same breath that I don't gig. So as far as packing equipment around and how the cable connectors hold up under more adverse conditons I can't comment on. I can say that I've never had any problems as far as connection in concerned, and really like the fact that the right angle connectors take up very little space on my board.

I've had zero noise/connection issues with mine. They're great, you should take the time to look into them.

Re: pedal cable kits planet waves vs. george L

I use GeorgeL and for the most part I like them. I have one situation where I cannot make them work for me, so I replaced that one connection with LiveWire connector I got from GC for $5. It works very well. (I keep a couple of LiveWires in my gig bag for emergencies)

I checked the Planet Wave version - same price - right angle plug (are they bigger than the GeorgeL plugs?) - you get a nifty cable cutter. I might consider it. I use Planet Waves into my guitars and have had no trouble with them. (I use Monsters from the pedal board to amp - but that's another story).

I agree, GeorgeLs are hard to get - but if space is a premium, it may be worth the effort.

I use George L's and love them! I have spools of black, red and blue and make all of my own cables now and it's easy...no trouble whatsoever. And my tone is the best I've ever had. Lew

That's hard to argue with there....

I have all Planet Waves cables now, and love 'em, but I'd consider the George L's based on that review.

I did have two Planet Waves cables...but I gave them away after I started using the George L stuff. I liked the Planet Waves cables. But when I went to ALL George L's my tone seemed tighter, clearer and quieter. Less pops and cable noise. Last I heard, Eric Johnson was using George L's too. Lew

George L's all the way here, but to be fair, I haven't tried the PWs.

Recently I needed a cable with a right angle plug on my pedalboard end, so I bought a nice Mogami cable at GC but ended up taking it back, the highs were clearer through my GL cable. So, I went and bought some of the .225" GL cable and ends and saved about $20.

That's what I hear too with the George L's. The highs seem clearer and sound prettier. And again: quieter...less hiss and static and cable noise. Lew

Re: pedal cable kits planet waves vs. george L

I tried lots and lots of cables and spent lots and lots of money on those cables before trying George L's...I wish I had tried them sooner! I use them and love them!

I've never seen the blue cable! Cool! I use them for the pedal board as well as for the guitar & amp connection. I bought some pre-made 15' ones which are great. I need to look for blue now. It will match my guitar (and amp!).

Re: pedal cable kits planet waves vs. george L

Cable can get very expensive as you start getting into some of the higher end stuff, but I think for great sounding, economic cable, it's impossible to beat Bill Lawrence or George Ls.

I've been using the Bill Lawrence cables for all my pedal interconnects for quite a while and I can't complain, they've held up with no intermittent issues, no noise, just clear and sweet tone. With that said, I ordered all new Lava ELC Tweed cables (finally saved up enough to re-do my entire board with them) and I have a gut feeling they're going to blow away anything I've tried in the past.

Re: pedal cable kits planet waves vs. george L

I've als been using George L's for quite a while. I've made 3 pedalboards with them with no issues. They are dead quiet and are very clear sounding. Much better than a lot of the pre made cables. I use the thin cables from pedal to pedal and I use the thin ones to run thru the loop. I use the heavier gauge wire to connect the amp to the board and the guitar to the board. No problems at all. I have a couple pf pre made George L's also that I use at home. I keep a couple of monster cables and a live wire in my gig bag for emergencies, but I have never had to use them.

Re: pedal cable kits planet waves vs. george L

i think im going to get a 15ft .155 red cable to try in front of the pedal board and if i like ill get all george l cables for the pedal board as well

hmnn but its a bit more expensive than monster..without lifetime warranty.

ebay has some deals for cheaper prices..and theyre new..
