Pedal Switch Toppers

So these seems like a good idea. In a live scenario Im about the clumsyest mostly unsophisticated pedal user ever. Singing and playing I cant carefully tiptoe around my board I clop my size 12 down werever it lands.
Anyway I try to stick with Boss style boxes but I do have 3 click type and inevitably I turn the knobs with my foot and mess my settings. I tryed taping my knobs which works but leaves my boxes sticky and collects dirt.
So these button things seem good. Now I see they have set screw ones and rubber ones too. Any expieriance with either??

Yep, tried them and don't like them. They do not work with certain buttons, Wampler, for example. Other buttons they would not stay firm on and would fall off if they were not constantly tightened. I got Peace Potis to keep my settings in place, and it worked out much better.

Good if you play barefoot or in socks, but not needed with normal gigs. The set screw ones are nicer, but they eventually loosen.

I've never had a problem with stepping on regular foot switches, so take this with a grain of salt . . . but if I was buying these toppers I'd go with ones with set screws. That just seems like it would hold on tighter. Maybe throw some blue locktite on the screw threads if they are working loose.

Makes ya wonder. Boss perfected stompbox design in 1977. Why has everyone gone back to click switchs?
Yeah, there are many who don't like the buffers in some pedals, and prefer a hard bypass. I was never someone to complain about buffers, but lots of people don't dig them. One think I will say about the clicky switches...you know when you press them.

I can see that. I kinda like true bypass myself. Outta my 6 boxes 3 are true bypass 2 are buffered 1 is an MXR( loaded). And i dont hate the switches.....its just having the switch on the same plain as the knobs.

I want a buffer in the signal path (ideally near the front of the pedal chain, but after fuzz and wah). It seems to help keep clarity in the guitar tone over all true bypass pedals . . . but that there is a very audible crappy thing that happens to your tone if you get five or six (or more) buffered pedals in a row.

i like a good buffer, i dont love the boss buffers. the fulldrive3 has a nice buffer, so does the h&k rotosphere

Another thing people don't consider about buffers is they only really matter when they are either poorly made or every pedal you have is off

I do notice on Boss buffers were you have you settings slightly effect the bypass tone.
On my SD1 if the tone gets too high my bypass tone would get slightly harsh.

Boss pedals have like a million different style buffers. Also if you have an older boss modulation pedal with an LFO, there is a chance that your bypass pedal has a high pass filter on it to filter the sound of the clock out of the bypassed sound
