Pedaltrain Mini Version 1

I'm REALLY digging this little board but there will be changes down the line.

The Boss tuner is on the way out and I'm not sure I'm gonna keep the OC-2 on there but I just felt like sharing it as-is...like many things a work in progress!

Re: Pedaltrain Mini Version 1

Pic is a little too small for my old eyes; what's the pedal rundown?

I know...whats up with that?!

I'll work on getting a bigger/better pic.

In the meantime.

Dunlop JH-1 wah, BMF Fuzz Face then to board...

Board is Aqua Puss-> Script Phase 45-> Hartman Compressor-> Boss Octave-> ZVex Box of Rock-> Boss Tuner.

I am gonna pull the tuner as soon as I decide on a different one and the OC-2 is on the possible chop block right now in favor of an Octavia of some kind...or maybe my Astro Tone fuzz and then just ditch the Fuzz Face for this set up...

I dunno, just kicking around ideas right doing a jam here and a gig there deciding on what to keep!

Re: Pedaltrain Mini Version 1

Oh great thread! Heres a Mini I put together for Grab N' Go. These pedals would cost considerably over a Grand brand new, but over the course of 6 months or so, I was able to find them used for about half that.;

Before you ditch the OC2 (although I ditched mine for an MXR Bass Octave Deluxe) try it first in line. Every octave pedal I've ever used (I'm a big fan of octave down pedals with no fuzz added) has worked best before all my other pedals, other than a compressor. If it's before the wah you can also use the wah with it which leads to some cool sounds.

Nah...gotta leave it where it is if I keep it.

I like the OC-2 but I use an octavia sound more often so the OC-2 might not hang on long term but right now I'm using it on a few songs...

Pretty cool board. How come you're running the Box of Rock at the end of the chain? It always strikes me as odd when guys have their dirt placed after modulation and delays.

Why??

If you run delay and modulation into a dirty amp it they are coming before the distortion...

It sounds and feels best that way to me for this set up.

On my big board I run my dirt after vibe but before chorus and trem...it just depends on the situation and desired results.

I don't know, really. It's just not the way I usually see it done. Personally, I just can't vibe with the sound of delay or reverb before dirt. It can sound pretty awesome, but it just doesn't really suit the music I play. Modulation can sound pretty cool before but, again, I tend to find it more useful after. That's why I always need an effects loop if I'm using the onboard gain or cranking the amp.

Different strokes and all that. That's still a rockin' board. :)

well, because then your repeats are all dirty, and it just sounds like noise, instead of having your clean repeats all get dirty, you can have you dirty sound get repeated and it sounds much much nicer, try it out

lol. I'm pretty sure he hasn't got it set up that way out of pure ignorance, man.

Re: Pedaltrain Mini Version 1

Here is the deal...take a delay pedal run it into a nice dynamic dirt box and then into a clean amp...

If you smack a chord and then just listen to each repeat as the repeats get softer they get cleaner and cleaner because the repeats are hitting the pedals "front end" less and less just like if you were running a delay into a cranked amp.

If you flip the order and feed a distorted signal into a delay then every single repeat will be distorted...they will decrease in volume but because you "printed" a distorted sound to the echo unit they will all be distorted.

I find the earlier way more pleasing plus if reacts more like I'm playing through a cranked amp even when I'm not...

Those are cool little boards. Nice setup. Been thinking about snagging a mini myself but look at other things first.

Re: Pedaltrain Mini Version 1

These mini boards are real cool... I still have some Hexaboard and velcro left over from my recent main board build so I think I'll knock one up real soon. Thanks for the GAS guys!
