I'm wondering if you guys can let me know how versatile the Pegasus bridge pickup is? All the demos online are people playing metal and not really any other styles. Since I hear it's a modified JB I'm wondering if it is also good for other styles? I play hard rock, blues, country, etc. I'm looking to put it in and old Peavey Ltd St which is a chambered alder body with 1/4 inch maple cap. I like the sound demos I hear of the Blues Saraceno Patb-3, but there is a local luthier that has a new Pegasus that I can get installed for $100 which is great since they retail at $89.99. He seems to think it would work for what I want. Thanks for any advice.

The Pegasus is a bit of a hidden gem. It's much more versatile than most people think because its marketed as this great "High Gain" humbucker. In reality it's not super hot (barely over 12K), its not shrill like the JB/no upper mid spike, & its just as good for Classic Rock or even something like Jazz as it is for Metal or Thrashcore. The main reason it's such a great high gain pup is because of how transparent it is, this is the exact same reason its so good at so many other music styles? It doesn't matter if you have a s#/t ton of gain running through it or a bunch of modulation effects, you'll hear every single note ring out.....

Just a side note, I personally don't see the whole JB comparison although I've heard people make it??? To me the two couldn't be more different! I mean they're both kinda lose in in the a$$ end but that's where the comparisons end for me. I absolutely hate JB's in all guitars, no matter the pot value but the Pegasus is by far IMHO one of the best humbuckers that Duncan has put out as far a production pickup in @ least 20 years!!! Again, just my opinion.....

Oh yeah, where in NH did you grow up??? I was actually born in TX to a British father and a Canadian mother but I've lived here in NH since I was about 11. My dad was in the U.S. military, before he retired we never stayed in one place very long so NH is as close to a home state as I'll ever have...
I moved away for a few years to sew my wild oats as they say! NYC, MA, ME, RI, PA, FL, NY again LOL, but came back when my son's mom got pregnant. It was, up until recently, a great place to raise kids! The "heroin epidemic" has made its way into the mountains, so now all the things I thought I'd left behind or ran away from are right here in my back yard again??? They just cost more here & there's absolutely no help for the people affected by them....

To me, the Pegasus has the power and drive of the JB without the EQ that I don't like. It is like a more balanced JB that is actually good for other types of music. It sounds better clean than the JB, and you are right, there should be more demos of it with clean playing (but that goes for all of our pickups).

Got it installed yesterday, but I think a wire is reversed somewhere. Sounds like a single coil. It is noisy in the bridge position just as much as the middle or neck single coil positions. In the 2nd and 4th positions it's much quieter. I'm going to have the tech double check it.

Thanks. I spoke to the tech last night. He said we need to take the red and white wires off the 5 way switch, solder them together, and put heat shrink over it. He said he wired it like that because that's the way the original humbucker was wired.
