I'm about to pull the trigger on a set of Pegasus/Sentient 7 pickups for my Jackson Dinky, but I'm not sure whether I should order them with the metal covers or not. Here's my situation.. I play in some relatively low tunings, with most of them being drop/open-tuning variations between A# and G#. I'll occasionally venture into to Drop G territory, and sometimes play in some funky tunings where I'll only drop down the low string to F#/F, but that is probably only 1% of the time. Nonetheless, I need the low-string to have decent attack/tight bass response, but need the high-strings to be balanced, and not "shrill" sounding. I incorporate a lot of semi-complex chords into my riffing, so chord definition and note separation is important.
To my knowledge, the uncovered version is going to generally be a bit more "open" sounding, and have a little more top-end bite. For these reasons, I was weighing more towards the uncovered pickups, especially for when I tune down towards G#. However, I'm just concerned that the extra bite may also mean a little less clarity for chords.
I know people will probably say stuff like, "the difference is so subtle that you won't even notice it, especially if you just play metal" and "any loss of bite can just be dialed back in by boosting the treble on your amp." I'm not necessarily disputing these notions, I'm just looking to see if there's some people with first-hand experience with these pickups that can chime in on the matter.
All feedback is welcome and appreciated.
