I know people born with it. They don't have to study it, and they don't have to practice or exercise it to keep it up. They can hear a cat walk across a piano or a car door slam and tell you the pitches (and in some cases, how out of tune they are). So, sorry, Surferman, while I believe you are able to hear something as you work on it, there are people out there that never had to work at it, and I've met several. It is strange, and freaky (much like the people I know). I don't know what you are arguing, or why you care so much about what other people's experiences are...I am happy for you, but I am siding with science and experience here.
Now, if only there was a course that would teach it, preferably with perfectly normal looking models to demonstrate it....
