Re: Petition to remove all Zephyr-related threads until SD produce their own demo/s.

I was specifically addressing what you said about the square wave at 15KHz.

That doesn't matter since the difference between a square and a sine wave is overtones. The first overtone of 15K is 30K and even a person who can hear 15K can't hear that.

That means even if you have a signal chain with speaker capable of projecting -say- up to 250 KHz and would put out a 15K square it would still sound precisely like a 15K sine to that person.

I wasn't commenting on resolution. It's pretty clear where you need more bits and where you don't, I don't think there is a dispute.

Let the people rejoice.

Let's just agree that the entity known as the Zephyr is a mysterious being whose existence and purpose in this universe is beyond the reaches of normal human comprehension. Like most such beings, believing in the Zephyr requires a significant application of "faith" and personal subordination. Anyone who claims to "know" the Zephyr can not truly know it and it is up to each believer to determine what the potential affects of the Zephyr's existence means for his/her own life.

Is it too many or just not enough drugs...? ;)

Not enough, I fear

A SDUGF Zephyr giveaway sounds pretty awesome. You know what would be even more awesome? If the person who won them agreed to let them become "property of the forum" - try them, send them on to another member.

I hope I'm wrong but I fear why Frank isn't with SD anymore because Zephyrs didn't make any hit in the market.
Why don't they just send a test pickup to Ola Englund/Keith Merrow?
Or bribe Eric Johnson or Joe Bonamassa to promote it?

Re: Petition to remove all Zephyr-related threads until SD produce their own demo/s.

Uh... what the hell are these so-called "Zephyrs" that everybody keeps mentioning here every once in a while???

What number is on this so-called ridiculous price tag?

What the heck is up with all these strange allusions to what appears to be "the Colonel's Special Secret Sauce"-type design?

...in other words - WHAT GIVES???? I don't even know what the dang product IS, but I'm already sick and tired of various vague and weird talk about it. Jeez, that's a first!

Still wanting to know whether Muciciansenemy allows you to combine MrRebates and regular 15% coupons.

Come on, somebody here must be a rebate artist and know all about the proper stacking :)

There's an interesting idea. How would you make it so no one would just decide to keep it? Would there be a rule on how long they've been on the SDUGF, how many forum posts? Or requirements for a deposit of some kind? If that part could be worked out I think it would be pretty cool.

Re: Petition to remove all Zephyr-related threads until SD produce their own demo/s.

I think you'd have to be a pretty established member, or have one vouch for you.

The deposit thing could work too, maybe a PayPal deposit with someone at SD who we could trust to look after the money.

Uh whoa. No. Nothing could be further from the truth. They weren't my idea in the first place, but I was lucky enough to work on their development and I'm glad they exist. Now I know what bimetallic pole pieces sound like, I have a point of view on what each bobbin material can do to the sound, a full understanding of the properties of silver wire in a coil, and the effects of cryogenic treatment on the sound and performance of a pickup.

What everyone is forgetting when they see the price tag is that this endeavor also brings you the ability to order any one or combination of those features from the Custom Shop. You know what would be a great pickup? A Jazz Bridge with Alnico 4 and bimetallic poles. And you can order that. Not too expensive either. Just a few years ago you couldn't. How about a cryo set of Antiquity Surfers? They'd be fantastic. Not that expensive. Glass-filled nylon bobbins for an Alnico II Pro neck pickup-unpotted! It would be amazing.

What I don't like about all the talk of a "bazillion k" resolution demos I that the difference CAN be heard at lower resolutions. I don't want people to think the differences only exist at the highest resolution audio. Sure, its the most efficient way of communicating them but its not necessary. When we STREAMED video from a UGD there were people commenting they heard the difference over streaming while I demonstrated them to the guys in our sound room.

It's only the sound PLUS the feel of playing them that makes them worth the price tag to me. If it were sound alone, then Line 6 modeling gear would be "the same" as the real thing if you only listened to YouTube comparisons. That's where any demo falls short of convincing a player they're worth the money. I think they're worth it. I can't afford them at the moment, but I think they're worth it nonetheless.

Re: Petition to remove all Zephyr-related threads until SD produce their own demo/s.

And Scott, I'm not sure you need a deposit. I mean, you were going to give them away a few posts back, so why don't you take the set you were considering giving away, and give it away AFTER a 6 or 12 month journey around the world. Each recipient would treat the pickups and lead wires very carefully, and agree to send them on to the next lucky winner of a "Zephyr trial period". At the end, the winner would have a set of Zephyrs AND a killer back story.

If someone stole them, you would just contact local law enforcement. You'd have all their contact information. You could keep a credit card number on file. If they're a prominent forum member the local SDUGF militia would form a vigilante lynch mob anyway.

Re: Petition to remove all Zephyr-related threads until SD produce their own demo/s.

How about a traveling Zephyr road show that stops at the highest volume Seymour Duncan dealers and demos it live across the country?

Re: Petition to remove all Zephyr-related threads until SD produce their own demo/s.

Thanks for the clarification, Frank. It makes much more sense to me now re: the concept and its value in the market. I appreciate it.

Whoa... somebody finally SORT OF mentioned what concepts and developments are going into this strange unicorn beast.

Now, how about for a finisher, explain that FEEL part?? Different string pull? Sustainer-esque options? Other electronic innovations?? Or what?

I was about to suggest Aceman but, then, I remembered what he posted about in a private social group about untitled drivers and expensive cars.

Just to drag this thread back to its original core topic: no, I don't think SD should remove Zephyr threads. Censoring discussion about your own products on your own forum is ... pretty stupid, to say the least. It would do far more damage than anything anyone else could possibly post on here.

And thank-you Frank for giving us that insight into the goal and ultimate outcome of the Zephyr design process.

Re: Petition to remove all Zephyr-related threads until SD produce their own demo/s.

This whole thing is... weird.

Let me get this straight.

These are the most expensive current-production pickups available anywhere. They're made out of extra-special materials and cryogenically treated.

This results in giving them super-extended dynamic range, frequency range, and a "feel" that is better than traditional pickups by an order of magnitude.

It's all so good, in fact, that the true depth of their superiority cannot be demonstrated by current audio streaming technology. You literally must experience them firsthand to understand.

Am I on the right track so far?

And this is supposed to be taken seriously?

Repent, ye blasphemous heathen! BELIEVE!!! :18:
