Phat Cat bridge, Custom Shop Texas Specials mid+bridge phase question

Hi; i'm new to this forum and having a confusing issue with my SD Phat Cat P90. I've installed it as the bridge pickup in my Am Special Strat so that I can have a fatter bridge tone. First I installed it with the ground shield soldered to the blade switch as it's my understanding that SD singles are reverse wound from modern Fenders. In this configuration I got no sound out of the bridge or bridge+mid combined settings with normal tone in the other 3 positions. Upon reversing the SD's wires (ground shield to pot) , I got normal tone in all positions except the mid+bridge, where I get an out of phase tone and obvious hum. I also installed a jumper wire for the bridge tone mod which seems to work as expected. What gives?

Soooo.... Thanks for all the great responses ; ) Got it figured out...kinda- well, I got it working the way I want. It was a phase issue and reversing the leads for the p90 didn't do it, neither did reversing the middle p/u. (the problem only existed in the mid+bridge pos.). But- reversing BOTH the neck and middle did it and it's everything I hoped for. Why do it work like that? Now I'm kind of pondering the idea of triple phat cats with triple toggles... that would look cool with my ashtray bridge cover...
