Phil Collen Destroyer

Northwinds

Got it last night, all stock and the case is in sweet codition also. Going to pull the Super 70s though. I am also going to probably upgrade the bridge to the Hard Rocker PRO version

I had the DT-155 and DT-555 both in the aquamarine burst so this is my first of the black version. It date codes by serial number to Dec 1983 making it an early one. The tuners are the Smooth Tuners, not the Smooth Tuner II's which are advertised in the original sales brochure. They did not come until 1984 actually

Plays awesome, I am psyched as I basically stole it

Happy New Gear Year :friday:

Re: Phil Collen Destroyer

Congrats!! WAAAAY cool!! Ive wanted one of those since they were released... Is that a kahler trem??

Re: Phil Collen Destroyer

That's a sweet guitar! Didn't Phil's have block inlays though?
Not that it matters much, that thing just screams Pyromania. :)

Re: Phil Collen Destroyer

The DT-555 came w/ block inlays. The original Ibanez release never came with a Kahler, Phil added that himself and also changed the V2 pups to Dimarzio's

The DT-155 came w/ dot markers and Super 70s

Though these were never "officially endorsed" as Phil Collen models, they are always associated with him

This thing sounds wicked through the Crunch channel of my Dragon... like straight off of the High n Dry lp

You probably know this, but Phil wasn't in the band for High N Dry, or most of Pyromania.
I know, it doesn't matter, I'll always think of "Rock Rock (til you drop)" and "Photograph" as Phil with one of these guitars.

What DiMarzio's did Phil use in these?

Actually, he left the 2 V2's in the middle and neck position and used a Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge. The Kahler was a Flyer and was installed after the original cavities were filled

Re: Phil Collen Destroyer

I forgot to mention that the factory wiring allows the middle pickup control to blend with the neck or bridge pups, it cannot be selected alone :eyecrazy:

Re: Phil Collen Destroyer

Cool info. Enjoy! :headbang:

Suprised JeffB hasn't seen this yet. He will be envious. :scratchch :approve: :cool2:

Re: Phil Collen Destroyer

Ok. the Prorock'R is what Im thinking.. Looks like a Kahler dunnit?? Seems like I recall an actual Kahler in later production years.. Either way, Ive wanted one since Phil Collen still enjoyed steak

Re: Phil Collen Destroyer

Nice! Makes "Photograph" play in my head! Didn't Adrian Smith play one of these too? I think a two pickup model?

Re: Phil Collen Destroyer

Those are very sexy guitars. I'd love to have one in this color blue with block inlays (picture is for color reference only):

Candy apple red would be nice as well, and jet black is quite a looker. I'm not big on the headstock. A reverse headstock could be cool.

Re: Phil Collen Destroyer

Indeed he did, in Candy Apple Red...always liked those...:friday:

Yep, Adrian and Dave both played DT-100s Destroyers back in the day

The trem bar on this one has officially parted ways with it's threaded section LMAO. They are more or less the same as a Fender bar so a replacement is easily available

SInce he enjoyed steak eh :naughty:

Here's a seven-string Destroyer in black with a reverse headstock:

I'd consider a 6 string newer setneck Destroyer but I have yet to find a place that carries them in CT. GC usually has a few Iceman's kicking around but Destroyers are sought after guitars so finding even new ones is hard

Reverse headstocks on Destroyers are not cool, it just looks SO WRONG LMFAO
