Exactly. I'd play it first, hear how it sounds unplugged and then make the call. If it's dead (which I'm guessing it is), pass on it (no sense in wasting money on a guitar that will never be able to perform).

Try it out and see/hear what it is like yourself. It will probably suck, but who knows?
$ 60 ain't that much, but if it is a stinker, why bother?

Kinda funny that you posted this...I bought a cheap neck off of Ebay to practice fretwork on. It says "Abilene" on the headstock, I'd never heard of them. I've never seen another one until you posted this. Actually, it's not all that bad of a neck. The one I have is a 21 fret maple Strat-style neck, medium thickness, small frets, smooth finish, and what appears to be a 1 5/8 nut width. For a neck I paid $20 for, it's not too shabby, probably on the level of a Squier neck in terms of quality. $60 isn't bad though, it could make a decent project guitar if you're into that sort of thing. But otherwise I'd probably pass.
