Pick question Jazz III

Ok, I feel kinda silly asking this, but I guess the only dumb question is one left unasked..

are the Jazz III red and black picks the same thickness? I cant tell a diff.. Normally diff colored picks signify diff thickness.

I have used Tortex orange for years and like a dope, I have probably 70 of them in my cases and prob go thru 2 a year.... Anyhow... I tried the Jazz III and at first I hated them cuzz they are thicker than I am used to and with thicker picks, I hit the strings too hard. Also they are so little, my thumb always hits the strings.
Anyhow.. I recently tried em again as I had some laying around and Im really loving them.. My picking has gotten more precise and Im getting a cool tone with the thumb. I originally bought red and blacks to try and see what thickness I prefer but I believe they are the same. True??

They're the same. The black ones aren't as glossy as the red.

The thickness is the same but the black ones are made out of stiffer nylon and have a little more attack.

The gloss on the red ones makes em kinda slippery. I roughed mine up with a nail file to rub it off. And Loserchief is right... the black ones do have more attack.

I'm a fan of the different edges, and like to tap with it from time to time even.

the jazzIIIs are alright. imo the tortex jazz are much nicer, the edge of the pick is a little more rounded and it's made of the same material as the orange picks you are used to.

if you still find the regular jazz III too small but like the sounds and tip shape and all that you can use the adult size jazz III XL picks since they're the same material, thickness and point shape just a full size pick to give you more area to hold.

just like i call 1 5/8" nut width necks child size the jazz III XL is the adult size version of the jazz III hahahaha. i tried the regular ones and just couldn't get into them since they feel tiny between my fingers so i tried the XL version and man those things are a home run. same pick attack/feel/sound on the strings but enough meat to actually hold between your fingers and get a good grip.

I went from the Tortex Jazz III, to the black Jazz III to a full size Tortex sharp.

I just bought a dozen White Tortex sharps. One of the best picks I think I have ever found. I like the JazzIII XLs too but they CAN get a groove in them if you string slide them repeatedly. Like twenty versions of Rock You Like A Hurricane. :approve: :cool2:

I love the red pointy Jazz III's. Thats all I'll use for my electrics, I've been using them for like 2 years now.

The black Jazz III and red Jazz III are both 1.38 mm thick. However, the black is a little stiffer, with more attack, while the red is slipperier and softer than the black one making for somewhat quieter attack. If you've liked tortex picks, you also might try the black tortex jazz. It isn't as thick as the Jazz III, (1.14 vs 1.38), however the pick is the same size and shape, and unlike the nylon Jazz IIIs, doesn't feel like it wants to slip out of your fingers as bad.
