Pick-ups for maple body?

Re: Pick-ups for maple body?

Nice. The CC is going to sound wonderful in the Horizon. You'll love it.

Re: Pick-ups for maple body?

Thank you, this guitar will mainly be used for Harmony studies/jazz/fusion/clean stuff

maybe some shred or back up for the Jacksons (metal)

which one would you take to combine with the CC: PG or APH-1?
knowing it should serve for above purposes...Want warm yet defined (bright/lush) cleans

thanks

Re: Pick-ups for maple body?

I haven't personally played the APH-1 but I love the PG, just don't have one. In my homemade strat, when I had the CC in it, it was mated with a Jazz in the neck. Wonderful clean tone. Just another option. I now have it set up with a JB/Jazz combo (matching zebras). I would have kept the CC in it had it been zebra but it's not. Oh well.

Re: Pick-ups for maple body?

been thinking of making that a zebra combination too!
I have the jazz but looking for more variety in my pups...and very curious about the PG and APH-1

Re: Pick-ups for maple body?

The Invader is GREAT for leads if used with bright woods. It is specifically designed for heavy soloing and chording which means that under distortion it plays like a dream no matter what. Not good for clean solos though.

Re: Pick-ups for maple body?

Won an Invader and Custom Custom on Ebay today. Looking forward to test them.

Almost scored a PG neck two days ago...damn that I've let that one slip out of my hands.

Re: Pick-ups for maple body?

I had the same problem in a Carvin V220. Its a brite machine. Maple body, maple neck, ebony board, brass nut. I put a Tone zone in it cuz the TZ sounded huge and sometimes muddy in other guitars Ive used. It sounded thin and tinny.
So, I tried the CC for the fat mids. I love the C5, but figured the highs would be too much for the brite axe. HOWEVER, the CC didnt do it for me. So, popped in the A5 magnet and found a perfect match. C5 has great balance and its aggressive if you need it. Try the CC too.. let us know
