Pickup for alder-body guitar...

Hey!

Through the last couple of months I´ve been recording with my band CRoAN www.croan.dk. I've used two guitars on the album, an EBMM EVH signature and a Washburn Dime 333. I really like the sound from my washburn, but when I plugged in the EBMM I was totally blown away by the sound. It was just the sound that i've been looking for, for so long :)

What I want to know is if somebody in here has any suggestions to what pickup will let me get the sound from my EBMM in my Washburn. Right now it has the SD Dimebucker in the bridge, a really cool PU but not as sweet as the one in the EBMM. I've privously tried a DiMarzio Air Zone and a Norton, but they sounded very dark and dull. There was no crunch/bite in them. Don't know if that has something to do with the wood the Washburn-body is made of. It has an Alder-body. Hope someone can help...

ROCK ON!!!

Re: Pickup for alder-body guitar...

The EVH EBMM signature and the Washburn are two totally different body styles and are made out of different woods, so ballparking the tone of the EVH with the Washburn is going to be hard to do. Last I checked the EVH signatures are basswood with maple tops.

The EVH's pickups are also OEM Dimarzio pickups proprietary to that guitar, and are not offered for aftermarket sale. The closest you'll be able to get is an Air Norton in the neck and a Tone Zone or Air Zone in the bridge.

If the EBMM has the exact sound you want, I'd make that the go-to guitar if that's what you like. You're not going to get the same sound out of that Washburn, no matter what pickups are in it.

Re: Pickup for alder-body guitar...

What exactly is it about the Washburn that you want to change? Like I said it's not going to get the same sound as the EVH model but you'll probably still be able to change the tone to better suit your needs.

Re: Pickup for alder-body guitar...

Thanx for the answer.

What I want to change is the bass-response. Really like it on the EBMM, it has more growl than the washburn, and the sound is generally more controlled (nothing that cuts the ear) Why I also want to change it is, that I'm really having a hard time playing the EBMM when I'm standing up. The neck is too short for me. When I change to the Washburn it's like coming home, it just feels right. So if I could get the sound I like in the guitar I like, that would just be amazing ;)

Re: Pickup for alder-body guitar...

maybe swap out the dimebucker for a duncan distortion? from what i understand dimebuckers have a bunch of top end but not much low end. the DD's EQ range is shifted lower so it should work out for you.
