Pickups for a PRS CU22

I recently picked up a 20th Anniversary CU22, which is a killer guitar!!! The Dragon II's it came with are too muddy and undefined for my tastes. Anyone have a favorite PRS replacement pup? I play hard rock/metal and I'm into low/med output pickups.

Thanks!

I also own a Custom 22 and struggled with the DII's for the same reasons as you. I replaced them with a Duncan JB in the bridge and a Jazz in the neck. Lew who I purchased the JB from flipped the magnet for me so I could use it with the PRS 5-way rotary. This may not be the last pickup combo in this guitar, but its light years better than the DII's in my opinion. Others have reported that the WCR Fillmore pickups sound great in this guitar, as does the Rio Grande BBQ.

I don't own a PRS, but my Hamer is similar in construction. I use an APHn and a C5 and it sounds great for pretty much everything.

Re: Pickups for a PRS CU22

I had a C-5 and a 59 in my CU24 and that set worked well but I think I'd suggest a CC and a PGn as they are a bit warmer and rounder sounding.

For a higher output guitar I'd suggest a Dime and a 59n. I've installed that pair in a few PRS guitars and the customers were floored.

Thanks Robert! The CC/PGn combo has me very intrigued for sure. Actually, they're among the few pickups that SD makes that I'm yet to try.
