Hey guys.

I finally got to pickup my Gordon Smith Guitar today, and boy is she a beaut! (I think she is anyway ;))

Pups are a Custom5 in the bridge and a Pearly gates in the neck. Both pups have a push/pull volume pot for Coil Split, a Treble Bleed Circuit on the volume controls and No Load Tone pots for a little extra treble when required :D

I don't know if anyone's interested, but here they are anyway!

A BIG THANK YOU to NUNTIUS for the web hosting, and for hooking me up with John at Gordon Smith Guitars :D

Gorgeous Brow; I don't think I've ever seen a nut held on with two screws like that before. Is that normal on an LP-type axe?

Regardless, it sounds like its killer. ;)

Hmm I never noticed that till now.

It's probaby because of the trus rod ajustment being by the neck pup? I dunno, I'll ask John about it next time I talk to him

I can't say as I'd noticed myself to be honest with you mate!

I think it must be because all Gordon Smith Guitars have Brass nuts, so I'm assuming he screws then onto the neck to keep them in-place? Dunno if thats the reason, but its my guess at it :)

My strat's one isn't screwed in, but my strat nut has wood on either side of it, and Les pauls don't... hmm it's a mystery.

Oh well........... It must have a reason otherwise John wouldn't do it would he!

I'm hopefully trying out the guitar in the studio today, so I should get a better idea of the C5 with a proper amp :)

Re: Pics of my new Handbuilt Gordon Smith Guitar :D

Oooo....one piece top...kickass!!!

That TOM looks a bit different to me...is it a standard TOM?

Re: Pics of my new Handbuilt Gordon Smith Guitar :D

You are a lucky lucky man. I love one piece tops. Bookmatcheds piss me off (except some quilts if they are done well).

Re: Pics of my new Handbuilt Gordon Smith Guitar :D

Very nice guitar!!! What does something like that cost anyway?

Re: Pics of my new Handbuilt Gordon Smith Guitar :D

what i probably like the most about the looks is.. the top is angeled towards the body and not stict 0° like normal tops

As far as I know it's a standard TOM. Although after looking at Simon_Fs LP in his avatar, it does seem a little different. I dunno why though :smack:

I tried the guitar with my Marshall JTM60 combo earlier and it sounds great! Played Clean I found the C5 to be a little brittle sounding, but not overly brittle, so it's a useable sound :) Under mid amounts of gain (about 8/20 on my JTM) the pups sounds great! Has planty of balls, and doesn't sound 'scooped' to me much at all. I did notice a small 'hollowness' to the tone, but nothing that makes me want to change the pup at this moment in time :)

The only bad thing that I did notice about the C5 was when I was using it with my Tubescreamer with gain set at about 9 o clock; the tone seemed to lack any balls and sounded 'dull'. After a slight kick up the arse from my SD Pup Booster, it sounded great again :D

The PG in the neck was what I was expecting really, as I already have 1 in the necl of my Epi LP, so I had more than a vague idea about what to expect :)

If I do change the C5 out in future I think it'd either be to a JB or to a PG :)

Now I have to wait and see how it stands up at band practise on Saturday :)
