Pinecaster body pics, stained and 1 coat of Nitro.

Here are a few pics of the Pine tele I've been working on, I didn't use any conditioner on it and I got some blochy parts but it really doesn't bother me, especially since some will be covered by the picguard and some is on the back.

I also wanted some thing as a cool contrast so I painted the sides and a small "binding" strip on the edges in white nitro from Reranch, also the clear coat is a nitro satin finish from Reranch as well. I still have a few more coats to go, but I think it looks great.

Just thought I'd show and see what ya'll think.

That looks pretty sweet. I actually like the blochy parts on it. Gives it some character.

Beautiful. Great color, love the contrast. I agree with Mr. Turtle: the blotches give it som extra character - this is going to look gorgeous when it's done, I expect. What kind/color pickguard are you adding? What's the rest of the package (neck, fretboard, pickups, etc.) going to be?

^ I'm not sure of the pick guard now, I was going to add one of these tooled leather guards :

But now I'm might go with something white to go with the sides. I've got a tele neck that I need to sand and refinish but nothing special there (Rosewood/Maple 22 frets). Pups are going to be a Smoker set from Zhangliqun that I bought off of kjrocks. A Tele Kit from SpecialtyGuitars.com, and a bridge and some dome tele knobs from Callaham.

Re: Pinecaster body pics, stained and 1 coat of Nitro.

Anyone know were I can get a white leather tooled picguard?

Re: Pinecaster body pics, stained and 1 coat of Nitro.

I might sand down that top again and try using some neutral grain filler so you get a nice even coverage from your stain. The grain filler is just like a whitewash which doesn't hide the grain but gives an even base for staining. It is fairly common with soft woods that they don't stain evenly.

Re: Pinecaster body pics, stained and 1 coat of Nitro.

I forgot to post on this. But this is easily one of the coolest teles out there. I like the blotchiness. And just go straight up white 1-ply to match the sides.

Re: Pinecaster body pics, stained and 1 coat of Nitro.

if you could get a tooled leather guard that was bleached white, that would fit very nicely.

Re: Pinecaster body pics, stained and 1 coat of Nitro.

if you do this again put a layer of clear shellac on the wood and then apply the stain, no blotches with the pine body.

otherwise looks great and I am with the guys that said straight white guard

Re: Pinecaster body pics, stained and 1 coat of Nitro.

I'm still w/Jolly and I'd like a white tooled Leather guard but, I'll probably just go with what cream and mrfjones said and throw a single ply white guard on it.

Re: Pinecaster body pics, stained and 1 coat of Nitro.

Loks good so far. Keep it up. I agree that a white guard would look good. Just a plain, single ply white guard.

Cool, but how does it SOUND? :D

Maybe he'll run some detailed tests to measure the resonant frequency of the body, as well as a frequency analysis to determine how it reacts to varying frequencies. When he's done he could put it on a toneometer and get a measure of the tone. :D

I want a tone meter! :(

Re: Pinecaster body pics, stained and 1 coat of Nitro.

I like the blotchiness of the finish. It adds character. I also agree with the white pickguard. Maybe though, it should be more of an antique or parchment color so there won't be such a stark contrast between the body and the guard....

Re: Pinecaster body pics, stained and 1 coat of Nitro.

^ That's a good idea, I was wondering if it was going to contrast too much. I also just added a electrosocket input jack and got some dome knobs from callaham (B Bent's thread made me do it!!!!!). I hope this thing will be done soon, next week I'll order the wire kit from specialty guitars.com and the control plate. Then the bridge from callaham.
