Planet Waves Instrument Cables FTW!!!!!

Re: Planet Waves Instrument Cables FTW!!!!!

I've got a Standard 100 Monster cable that gave me problems 10 years ago. I never took it back because I didn't want another one. I paid good money for it and then I disovered later that the solder joints were done very crappy. Fixed it myself but I never use it.

I like Spectraflex cables, own 3 of them, and never had a problem with them. I just picked up a Mogami 10 footer a few weeks back. Great cable, solid connectors. Between it and some other 10 footers I have, I can hear the difference in sound. I don't know where it's made and really don't care.

Never tried a Planet Waves cable.

Re: Planet Waves Instrument Cables FTW!!!!!

I had Canare cable and Neutrik connectors throughout my entire rig, but then tried George L's and couldn't believe how much better they sounded. So now it's George L's throughout the entire rig, with spare cable and connectors for on the road emergencies. Two years of touring and gigging with George L's and there hasn't been an emergency yet.

Cheers...............................wahwah

Re: Planet Waves Instrument Cables FTW!!!!!

Wow, another reason not to buy Monster. Also, Monster cable isn't "high end" by any definition. Its overpriced crap.

No one should buy Monster for the quality.

You should buy them for the warranty. I beat the snot out of mine and I find they hold up just as well as any other cable I have around that I would have paid 1/4 for.

But when I get it in my head to use it for something like a tie-down on a car and it inevitably breaks then the warranty is totally worth it.

Re: Planet Waves Instrument Cables FTW!!!!!

I use Cordial pro-line cable ..They all have neutrick jacks ,and last forever...I don't know how often i "drive" over my guitar cable with my chair in my room..Never had a problem with them,,The George L's sound good ,but i prefer German made stuff ,since it's cheaper here ,and same quality if not better...
But i want to try Vovox cables..They are the "top" line!

Re: Planet Waves Instrument Cables FTW!!!!!

I only had a few cables quit on me and on was a planet waves gold plated one. It only lasted a few months playing in my basement. It must have been defective because I wasn't hard on it.

Re: Planet Waves Instrument Cables FTW!!!!!

If some of you guys are jumping around and such to the extent your breaking cables and/or pulling your rig down, I've got to say that with all due respect thats a pretty dumb way to treat your gear for one, and two, why on earth don't you get a wireless system ?

A cables is just a cable, even if its a top of the line, if it breaks your out $30-40, big deal, life goes on. Carry spares. HOWEVER if your messing up the jacks on your rig (not hard to do with a lot of them being plastic) that can be a real issue.

You want to be down a head 2 weeks while you get it serviced ? You want to not be able to finish the set ? Heck, if the thing falls as someone mentioned, you want to be have to pay for the repair, new tubes etc ?

I wouldn't, and thats why when I'm not using a wireless, I make darn sure I've got plenty of cable at all times so I dont turn around and damage something. Or trip myself or a bandmate.

Sorry but the issue isn't why the cables failing but what on earth your doing to be damaging something like a cable of all things!

I've had cables for 15 years and they still work just fine.

I've blown tubes, torn speakers, broken strings, chipped finishes, damaged a few mikes, broken a few bones, you name it, but never have I done anything to destroy a cable LOL

All of people (for example Iron Maiden) dont like the sound of wireless, they like to be strapped into the amp

Re: Planet Waves Instrument Cables FTW!!!!!

I use George L's. Very dependable and I have heard an improvement in the signal as well. I use the .155 to wire my pedal boards, and I use the .225 to connect the amp to the board and the guitar to the board. Works for me. That being said I have used Monsters with very good results also. The planet wave cables I have not used. I'm sure they are fine. When you consider the money you spend on guitars, pickups & amps to get a good sound. Spend a few extra $ on a good cable its worth it.

Re: Planet Waves Instrument Cables FTW!!!!!

I like Planet Waves, they've worked very well for me since I've been using them over the past 3 years or so. They're decently reliable and have taken a good amount of mistreatment so far, but I store them properly and try to take care of them s best I can. I've had one failure, and the solution was to unscrew the plug, chop off two inches of cable, and pop the plug back on and it was fixed.

I've looking into Spectraflex's recently, though. No particular reason, just looking at options for big fat tough cables.

Spectraflex is the way to go bro. Its like getting a custom cable - you can request right angles, silencers, different wraps etc... I have 2 now and they help up with absolutely zero problems. They're not even that expensive compared to other brands. Well worth the money.

Re: Planet Waves Instrument Cables FTW!!!!!

Recently bought a planet waves 20ft cable. I lost a cheap one plus i wanted a cable that wont coil up on me during rehearsals and stage. I was hoping to get something else with repairable connections etc but they were either dirt cheap or super expensive studio quality. PW was the only brand in that happy middle ground plus the guy at the shop (dealt with him before) said if needed i could have the cable replaced without packaging or receipt, no questions asked.

Anyway, my band's final gig tonight... will let you guys know if it breaks!

Re: Planet Waves Instrument Cables FTW!!!!!

I've been using peavey cables for years and they've done their service wonderfully for me.

Re: Planet Waves Instrument Cables FTW!!!!!

Monster isn't the only company with a Lifetime Warranty. Many cables, such as ProCo, Mogami, Planet Waves, and Whirlwind have lifetime warranties. And they are cheaper and better as well. I've used the Mogami warranty once, it was a direct swap, no questions asked.

Last I checked Planet Waves required shipping it back to the company.

Hey...if I'm driving home from the mountain and I'm using a cable to hold down my snowboard and it breaks I want to be DEAD certain I can pick up another one within a few exits on the highway and NOT when I ship it back to them and wait a few weeks for processing.

I've been using peavey cables for years and they've done their service wonderfully for me.

*sighs*

So rarely we agree....but on this one I just can't approve strongly enough.
