So how do i get my broken cable replaced? It's a good 3 years old and so i don't have the box or reciept anymore, can i get it at any place that stocks Planet Waves cables? Or do i contact Planet Waves themselves? Can i just take it in and walk out with a new one? Or will they tell me without a reciept i have no chance?

I accidentally somehow bent the end of it at the last gig, didn't realise till last band practice but now it cuts out now and then, will they tell me as it's bent is must be down to improper use?

Cheers guys.

Re: Planet Waves lifetime guarantee...

Yeah i'm just about to fire off an email... Not holding out too much hope really...

Re: Planet Waves lifetime guarantee...

3 years?

Wow, i've had 3 PW cables which all broke almost immediately.

I'd buy a Monster Cable if i were you.

Re: Planet Waves lifetime guarantee...

Wow, if we're gonna get into suggesting/bashing different cables Im ognna say get some George L's...I never tried the Planet Waves but the Monter cables I had were garbage...not made that well and just killed my tone bnot to mentioin cost way more than they could ever be worth...

Re: Planet Waves lifetime guarantee...

Monster cables are a ripoff. I got some great Peavey cables with a woven cloth outside for not too much. They are orange and purple too. Which rocks.

Re: Planet Waves lifetime guarantee...

Lol, monster cable a rip-off?

Funny stuff when it has the best components of any cables.

Re: Planet Waves lifetime guarantee...

To each his own but I would think the time to figure out where to send it, going to the post office, cost of sending a defective cable back in, waiting lord knows how long for it to get processed, proof of purchase BS etc and then to have it finally replaced just wouldn't be worth the time/money involved.

Also I would think if it was due to an accident on your part, then wouldn't cover it anyways. I think its covered from defects but not user accident/abuse.

I think you'd be best to just stop in the local store and pick up a replacement or two and get back to playing music. Isn't really worth sweating the small stuff like a cable

Then again, there are plenty of people who will spend $9 in gas driving across town to buy something for $10 (like my mother lol)

Re: Planet Waves lifetime guarantee...

It's all about homemade Mogami + Neutrik for me!

Just take the cable into any store that sells PW cables, and they'll give you a new one.

Best components don't mean anything if they're not put together well. All the monster cables I've had broke very quickly.

Re: Planet Waves lifetime guarantee...

Yeah, if you just take the old cable, no matter how old it is, just take it to an authorized Planet Waves dealer, and they should hand a new one over to you without any questions. You don't have to have a receipt or anything.

Re: Planet Waves lifetime guarantee...

Ah that's what i was hoping, going through sending it off and everything would be more effort than its worth, but if i can get a replacement cable just for taking it in then thats a good deal! It wasn't worth the walk into town without knowing, cheers guys.

Re: Planet Waves lifetime guarantee...

I have used that PW lifetime guarantee a few times, before I finally gave up on Planet Waves cables. I went through five of them. Soundhouse in Cheltenham replaced them no questions asked.

Re: Planet Waves lifetime guarantee...

I guess the Planet Waves Lifetime Guarantee means:

The cable is promised to last for its entire lifetime.

Emmmmm, well i've had 1 monster cable which has taken a hell of alot of beating- people stepping on them, my 8 stone dog sleeping on it- on numerous occasions, my being a dumbass and stepping on it, moving house 3 times and it being at the bottom of the box yet it's still in immaculate condition whereas i've had 3 PW cables, none of which have taken a beating & all have broke VERY quickly.

My £5 smart cable has lasted twice as long as my 3 PW cables put together & i'm not BS'ing.

Re: Planet Waves lifetime guarantee...

Monster's marketing really got to you huh?

Nope, i've played alot of cables, opened them up for inspection etc.

My Monster Cable has taken alot of beating & still is in 100% condition.

George L's are great too, don't get me wrong, but PW definately are not good. Their guarantee doesn't mean **** either if you have to go back to the shop every 2-5 weeks.

A guarantee or warranty doesn't pertain to anything involving materials or quality.

Matter of fact, the inverse is likely the case.

A very well made cable doesn't need that sort of thing. And most folks, when a cable busts, they just chuck it or end up putting it aside and forgetting it, even if it is a Monster. The majority likely never come back to Monster, and it's not because of the quality of materials or construction.

Most folks are fine with any run-of-the-mill cable.

None of the "abuses" you've claimed to have put your cables through are all that stressful or remarkable. They're what I would expect ANY cable I would purchase to be able to sustain without damage.

Re: Planet Waves lifetime guarantee...

If you want to really put your cable under stress, use it as a tiedown a few times. ;)

I've bought one Monster cable and only one. It broke. I ended up fixing it myself. The solder joints on the connectors were done very poorly. I still don't use it.

Mogami and Spectraflex for me. Not very expensive and last a long time.

With a lifetime warranty, most, if not all, dealers will just swap the cable out for a new one.
