Played a Charvel today!!

Re: Played a Charvel today!!

Charvel to my mind is a hot rod Fender style guitar at the foundation. If FMIC wants to make a competetive guitar to the PRS SE line I think its a mistake to use the Charvel brand name for that. "Heartfield" never caught on but I'm not ure "Charvel" is appro either. Not saying its not a nice guitar, but come up with a different brand name.

Played a Charvel today!!

I knew someone who knew the history of those brands would chime in. My whole point was just to illustrate that Charvel isn't anybody's "Epiphone."

Which was not my point....which was they do have an alignment with each other. And that alignment is much closer in quality and craftsmanship that, say, the difference between something like Gibson and Epiphone or ESP and LTD. so...sorry, if you don't feel what I have been told by a former designer/builder from Jackson counts as a knowledge of the history of the brand.

Now, if someone can pull the panties out of the crack of this thread....

This is the part I took issue with - there's not an appreciable difference in quality between the top-shelf offerings of either brand. If a guy who used to work for Jackson told you they were just a teensy bit better, well, I would expect them to think so.

To say they "much closer in quality than ESP and LTD" implies that 1, they're not the same quality ("much closer," notwithstanding), and 2, that their relationship is somehow analogous to that of ESP and LTD.

If that's not what you meant, I'm sorry I took what you're saying so literally.

I'm really not upset. I'm not really into Charvels or Jacksons. I'm more of a Gibson guy. I just didn't want the dude who seemed to need more info about those brands to be confused needlessly.

Re: Played a Charvel today!!

That looks cool! havent played one of the other charvels other than the socal/san dimas, but Im gassing for a star.. They seem to be attracting some endorsers with those like you tried. FWIW. Yeah, money talks, but junk axes will only go so far..

Re: Played a Charvel today!!

That color seems a bit bright compared to the real deal Rosso Corsa but man that's a screamin' looking thing.

Selling it for a buddy or did you grab it and not care for it?

Re: Played a Charvel today!!

Ya know... I'm glad Charvel is still kickin' and making, what I hear, great instruments...

But I really wish they hadn't taken a page from Schecter and starting abaloning goddamn EVERYTHING.

Re: Played a Charvel today!!

no i know that...

usually the fanboys insist that unless it's a super strat, it's not a "real" charvel, whatever that means.... totally neglecting the fact that charvel is just a brand name.

back on topic though, I haven't played any of the desolation models, but the re-release of the stars certainly did ignite a bad case of GAS. Love the San Dimas/So Cal and wildcard guitars though...they play like greased butter and sound absolutely fantastic.

I still wouldn't mind getting my hands on a Surfcaster with a Phat Cat and a lipstick tube single coil. Granted, I usually play metal stuff, but I could dig a little bit of surf guitar vibe here and there.

My camera may have kicked up the saturation a bit, but the color really is called "Ferrari Red."

I'm selling it for the other guitar player in my band, who's the kind of guy who would get mileage out of a guitar like this, if you know what I mean.

All that cheesy bling helps create a perception of value among many consumers. I can only imagine the inner dialogues:

"Well, they wouldn't bother putting all those inlays on if it weren't a great guitar."

"Yeah, look at those inlays. That's how you know they used the better wood."

Yes, that's how you know.

"Yeah, look at those inlays. That's how you know they used the better wood."

From a purely Scientific perspective, what difference does replacing generous quantities of fingerboard tonewood with slices of abalone-effect plastic make to the overall tone?
