Played a Fernandes Ravelle today..

(Just a quick review for those who have never heard of/played one  )

I had a chance to play a Fernandes Ravelle today through an Orange HTC-140 halfstack, and it seems like it's definately one of the better stock guitars I've played. Very cool body shape IMO.

It had a JB in the bridge and a Fernandes Sustainer pickup in the neck. The sustainer is a pretty cool feature of the guitar.. I'm not sure I'd give up a real neck pickup for the sustainer, but it's still pretty cool. Takes a while to get used to using it. The JB seems to suit the guitar well.. I was able to get both cutting lead tones and a nice round clean tone.

The guitar itself seemed pretty fast.. seemed to have a flatter radius fretboard than I normally play. The Ivory White finish was pretty much perfect, except for one small splotch of paint on the 3rd fret. Fretwork was excellent.. not perfect, but very close. Grover tuners came stock.

I don't remember the exact price, but it was somewhere in the neighborhood of $850. It was a very nice guitar, but I'm not sure if I'd pay that much for it. Maybe if it was more like $500-600....

We've got one of those at the shop as well.. I'll play one and post my impressions sometime this week.

Re: Played a Fernandes Ravelle today..

I played 2 recently. I think they're pretty cool looking, had my eye on one since I saw Reeves Gabrels playing one a year or 2 ago. His is Japanese the ones we are seeing here are Chinese made. I was shocked at how much better the Chinese have gotten in such a short period of time. The finish was still very plastic looking but the build quality was very good otherwise, the pickguard looks like crap but that's just me. Balance was excellent and the tone was pretty good as well, they were not very resonant but I think that has to do with the heavy finish. Plugged in it sounded like a decent LP, nothing shocking, the Sustainer is fun to mess with but I don't really think that would put me over the edge on one. I would say $600-650 would be a better range for a Chinese made guitar.

BTW no cool green like Kushner is using is available, sig model coming?

We've got one of the cheaper Vertigo's... I noticed it when i was retagging some stuff. It's kind of weird model, just has one humbucker in the bridge. Every other one I've seen has a dual humbucker config.
