Played a JB Strat yesterday...tell me about Lace Sensors

Hey Guys,

I stumbled on a beautiful Jeff Beck Strat at a local store yesterday. I'm not a big strat fan, but this guitar was AMAZING. I loved the thick neck and overall playability of the guitar. The guitar even stayed in-tune after using the non-locking Tremolo! For those of you that aren't familiar with the guitar, it comes with Lace Sensors is H/S/S (the bridge can be split into a single as well). I plugged it into a 101B, but I couldn't really crank it (small store).

I have limited experience with active pups (I have an EMG 85/SA/SA in my Invader that I love). I know strats aren't really metal machines but would these pups be good for rock and metal? If not, are they a bitch to replace? Any general thoughtrs about the Lace Sensors?

Thanks
Paige

I thot the Lace Sensors in my Eric Clapton Strat were cool sounding pickups at first. After a short time they started to sound bland and hi-fi. Especially when I compared them to my other Strats with vintage style Seymour Duncans and Fralins.

Jeff doesn't use the Lace Sensors any longer. Neither does Eric Clapton.

Thanks Lew. How do they compare to the EMG 85?

that beck strat was one of the old ones. the new ones have fender noiseless pups, as does the clapton.

the lace in that guitar are 4 gold ones. overall im not that big a fan of lace, but i do have one custom wound hot gold set that i dig, thanks donzo!
compared to emgs the lace are much lower in output and quite different sounding. if you like the guitar, get it and if it ends up not sounding like you want drop whatever pups you want in it. keep the old ones incase you sell it as original ones tend to get more money

Thanks Jeremy. Any idea if the newer JB strat's have the same hardware, neck profile and scale?
