Played my first gig with Line 6 DL-4 and Homebrew CPR Compressor...

And both sounded superb! I use just a little delay on some of the originals that we do that have a bit of that Hendrixy Little Wing kinda thing and the DL-4 sounded so good. I keep it down low, tap in a repeat time that's in time with the tune and don't use any modulation.

I just use the straight up Digital Delay setting.

I used my Strat with the Antiquity Surfers and Duncan CS alnico 2 Tele Hot bridge pickup through my modded Deluxe Reverb amp with Celestion G12H30 speaker. I never had the amp up passed three...but it's been modded to have a Marshall tone stack and less negative feedback, etc...so it rocks at a low volume.

Still, at that volume sometimes it's nice to have a fatter tone and little more sustain on some tunes so I set the gain and compression on the Homebrew CPR both to about 12 oclock and just leave it on. I can turn the guitar down for a very natural and clean rythym tone and then turn the guitar up all the way and get sustain forever but with a very pure and natural tone.

It's for sure the best and most natural sounding compressor I've ever used. Highly, Highly recommended...you can't really tell that it's on - until you turn it off. (laugh!)

Sounds great. Is tap the way you normally set your delay? What do you use for delay times to start, a nice short one?

I have two similar delay settings preset to two slightly different tempos. And then, for certain tunes, I just tap in a little slower or little faster repeat if I need to. I just do it by ear. If I decide I like that better than what I had and want to save it I just hold that button down for a while to save the preset. But I tend to use effects very subtley. I don't go for a real dramatic delay. I do have an expression pedal with mine so I can set the mix with the expression pedal if I want to. But generally, I have the delay fairly low...just loud enough to be able to hear it, but not so high that everything starts sounding all swimmy and dizzy. Lew

After getting the Line 6 Green and Blue, and hearing how authentic they can sound if set right, I've got no use for rack/fx loops anymore. All that spaghetti is just ridiculous. I just plop the pedalboard on the floor, plug in, and I'm done setting up. Even though the delays are going into the front end, they still sound good.

I have a Dual Switch box that brings in or removes the L6's from my signal.
It's nice being able to set up sounds on the L6's, and even tap in the tempo.
Then, when I activate the switch box's button up front, the L6's on the back of my board come on with the tempo already pulsing properly. The other button on the Switch Box kills the signal and sends it to the tuner.

I really like the Line 6 stuff I own. It's the warmest, roundest, most natural sounding digital stuff I've tried.

But I'm not real familar with the whole line. What's the Green and Blue?

Thanks! Lew

I believe the Green is the DL4 Delay Modeller, and the Blue would be the MM4 Modulation Modeller?

I'm also glad to hear you like the CPR Lew. I've ordered 1 myself, so just waiting for it to arrive so I can start building my new pedalboard :)

My lazy way of saying the DDL-4 and MM-4. I actually like the modulation modeler too, just because it's like having all the good modulation stompboxes in one tidy package. Some may say that it isn't as good as all analog pedals, and they may be right, but the MM-4 also gets some trippier sounds that I can't squeeze out of a simpler analog box.

I don't go crazy with FX all over everything, but when I do use it, I want people's heads to turn.....WTF was that??? I really like the Delay's ability to copy that nasty decay from old tape and tube units. I almost like those sounds more than the digital delay.

I kinda like the backwards echo effect...that'll turn a few heads. Haven't used that setting in public...but it's a cool one!

I think you'll love it. Like I said, it's very natural sounding and I find that when I want to use it I can keep it on all the time and just turn my guitar up or down to go from clean to overdrive/compressed. Very natural.

I have a really old MXR Dyna-Comp...that'll be going on Ebay! Never liked it...never used it.
