Please rate my rig, 2008 edition. PICS!

Re: Please rate my rig, 2008 edition. PICS!

I want a strat exactly like yours. If I only owned one strat forever it would look like that.

Lol. Word. It's a MIM, but I played 10000 others before picking that one. When I change the pups, it will take on any mia.

Re: Please rate my rig, 2008 edition. PICS!

You should sell the Fender and upgrade the pickups in the Gibson.

Sell and upgrade both.

The Fender's a no-brainer.

I never understood that finish on a guitar.

Re: Please rate my rig, 2008 edition. PICS!

I knew the strat would get flamed lol.:lmao:

I'm not going to sell it, but the lp will get a set of new pickups.

Re: Please rate my rig, 2008 edition. PICS!

im loving it.

especially the vintage mahogany, i swore it was a standard!

Thanks dude! lol! It is the nicest mahogany I could find. Sounds as good as a standard, and even my 2 buddies that have standards will admit it. I changed a few things to cream, and voila! Instant good looking guitar.

If it was me, I'd sell everything except for the Epi, and buy yourself some incredible amp. You'll be set for life, anything else will be icing.

That said, it's awesome as is! That Epi though, that's something special. Upgrade the P90s in there.

Get yourself something like a Matchless or something, and never look back.

I would almost second that, except i would keep the strat as well. You could really get an amazing amp if you sold three of those guitars and the amp.

Re: Please rate my rig, 2008 edition. PICS!

No, keep the LP if you're keeping anything. :)

Me no rikey the strat. Probably my least favorite of all 5 actually, although I'm sure it sounds incredible.

But who cares about sound!?

Re: Please rate my rig, 2008 edition. PICS!

Lol. Yeah, that could be an option, but I love having all the possible sound combinations covered. I would rather wait and add than sell to get something different.

Re: Please rate my rig, 2008 edition. PICS!

Nice rig! I demand closeups of that wildcat!

-Personally, I'm an amp guy, so I'd look at adding to that end of things. And Godins do nothing for me on an aesthetic level, though I'm sure they play and sound good...

Re: Please rate my rig, 2008 edition. PICS!

It seems like you have a very solid rig there!

If you don't update the pups in the LP I recomend an RS Works Treble Tamer Kit. When I had my studio one was in there and I thought that guitar sounded great!

Re: Please rate my rig, 2008 edition. PICS!

I'd rate the rig at a "7".

The Epiphone and Gibson, provided they are good guitars - are keepers. Sell the rest of your guitars - get rid of the Godins, get rid of your MIM Strat get rid of the acoustics. Get a sweet, highend Fender Strat (an American Reissue or similar) and upgrade the pickups on your guitars (if you get a good Strat, you won't need to mess with the electronics, so the money that you wanted to spend on your MIM pickups can now be used towards getting a quality USA Strat). Bam - you've now got 3 very different, highend guitars with good electronics.

Next, get rid of that Peavey stack, keep your Fender. If you like low wattage amps, look at an 18w Marshall clone (or, provided you have the cash, get the P-T-P legit Marshall one). Throw in an A/B box and now you have sick cleans from your Fender and a ballsy, crunch channel thanks to the Marshall - you can now get better overdriven sounds than pedals pushing your Blues Deluxe.

Depending on what cash you have left over - I'd invest the rest into a good acoustic like a Takamine.

That's what I'd do - you asked for opinions, so there you go :)

Sell everything but the Gibson, Fender and classical. Fit the Gibby with P-90s, and get yourself a very nice amp, as Big Al suggests. One nice overdrive or boost pedal should do the trick for you, depending on what amp you decide on.

Re: Please rate my rig, 2008 edition. PICS!

I don't want to tell you what to do, so I'll tell you what I would do if I were you...

I'd sell some stuff first that seems a bit superfluous. The Godins, the Epiphone, the ME-50, and your pedals except the wah. That leaves an acoustic, a classical, a Strat, a LP, the wah, and your amp.

Then I'd upgrade the pickups on both electrics to Duncans. No use in having decent guitars and leaving them stock.
Strat (new HSS pickguard): Classic Stack Plus (N) / Classic Stack Plus (M) / JB Trembucker (B)
Les Paul: Pearly Gates (N) / '59 (Degaussed) (B)

Then I would get a nice overdrive pedal, a delay, an EQ pedal, and maybe an echo. And If I had money left over, I would consider getting a smaller amp as a backup for gigs.

And again, this is what I would do in your situation, not necessarily what you should do. After all, you know your rig better than anyone, and I'm sure you bought each of these things for reasons that none of us will fully appreciate at face value.

Re: Please rate my rig, 2008 edition. PICS!

Well my philosophy has always been to add instead of selling. My godins sound great. Amazing even, so those are keepers. What I will do very shortly is upgrade the pickups in my strat and lp, and get a good distortion overdrive, something good.

I love the amp btw. I'm going to review it on the amp section of the forum, so I'll let you know why I love it on there.

Re: Please rate my rig, 2008 edition. PICS!

Well my philosophy has always been to add instead of selling.

I felt this way for a while, but when I found I couldn't fund the items I wanted to add to my collection, it forced me to take a good look at what I really like and use, and what sits in the corner. The things that sit in the corner are those things I always rationalized in my mind. ("Someday I'll want to use that thing, I just know it, even though I haven't touched it in over two years.")

When I recently found myself wanting an axe with P-90s, I looked at my equipment and found I didn't use one of my 2x12 cabs, my acoustic and a fuzz pedal. I knew I'd use whatever I bought more than those things, so I decided to sell those items and use that money to fund my P-90 axe purchase.

Using this approach, I feel my rig will continually evolve until I get to a point where I own the best of the things I'll use consistently, and won't have any extraneous gear.

I feel that asking for approval of your rig from other people is more subjective than tone. If it works for you and pleases you, then there is the most important vote.
