You see, even though i have one, its burIed behind all kinds of ebay stuff so i can't Play it. Even if I could, I don't play anymore.I want to , I plan to, but I don't.
Now, I have one of the best best Marshalls- a 1978 JMP 100 watt through a full stack of G12-65's and Greenbacks., but have only really played it maybe a few hours total since I got it many years ago.
The thing that concerns me , even though I remember it does sound fantastic, from what i remember is there was no real low end / Low mid pant leg flapping air moving for the massive 'chugga chugga' 'whomp whomp' thing.
That what i love about the Peavey 6505 I have is that it has a low end 'resonance' feature that basically sounds like a bass player is playing note-for -not along with every shred lick you do.
So, is the Marshall just all 'upper mids'??
Can that be rectified by maybe a modification, or maybe going with a hot rod Plexi? Did Van Halens Plexi thing have lots of low mids?

Marshalls have to be turned up past the effect of the bright cap on the volume to sound good, and with a full stack that's extremely loud. My buddy has a metal front JMP that rocks the neighborhood with a half stack. He got a Plexi RI and ran it as a full stack at a show. Wow. Even attenuated it was loud.

My two marshall style amps are a Splawn QR and a 2203. The Marshall needs to be much louder to be "full" sounding, I think Scott Splawn did some tinkering with that volume control to make it sound like a raging Marshall at all volume levels.

Regardless, I wouldn't be surprised if your full stack sounded "thin" when it's short of the point of annoying the neighborhood.

Any amp does its own version of 'chugga chugga womp womp' if you turn it up really loud. Bass frequencies need the most power to push. Mids and treble are relatively easy.

Now all you have to do is send your fullstack to me. Then I'll be able to tell you about the sound of a Marshall full stack. ;)

I prefer that kind of sound - some low end, but mainly mids and upper mids.

That is why i love my Orange Thunderverb.

It is the amp that Marshall wants to be. Lemme explain.

It deff has that British thing going, but will a lot more low end from as little as '1' on the volume knob.
Even my Tele has mega BALLZ, through the TV50.

I not into modern amps for the most part..maybe I need 2 scrounge a vintage Orange, or possibly Matamp , Hiwatt/ Reeves?

My Thunderverb is arguably the most vintage sounding of all the current production Orange models right now.

Do not overlook Hovercraft amps.

From very 70's retro, to hi-gain, all in one amp.

What about Zakk Wylde w/ Ozzies JCM800's with the EV12l's? Maybe I need a custom cabinet?

Speakers are overlooked, most of the time.

The correct speaker and cabinet can contribute to make a massive difference.
A posted cab, like a Port City, paired with good quality speakers, known for their low end thump, will deff help to beef up your amps tone.
You can also look into modifying your amp.
Some people do the Super Bass mod, other do smaller mods, where they change n replace some of the parts with diff value components to cut some of the high end that Marshalls are known for.

Good god man have a yard sale. The volume of the stack will draw a lot of attention.

Re: Please tell me about the sound of a Marhsall Full stack

Yikes. That looks like Diogenes Syndrome, except that you collect expensive stuff like vintage Marshall stacks and not garbage...

+1 on the yardsale so you can plug it, crank it and happily knock yourself out in a tonal bliss!

Re: Please tell me about the sound of a Marhsall Full stack

Jesus H Christ, Jer.

Clean up your damn jam room and play some guitar. You have equipment most people would be envious of and this is the kinda BS you post?

seriously. spend a few hours cleaning that awful mess, then pick up your guitars and play some guitar instead of fantasizing about what gear you delusionally think you need.

Stop going to goodwill to buy and start going to donate

I see VHS movies in that pile. Possession of VHS tapes in 2015 is very highly correlated with hoarding . . . throw some **** out man!
