plz recommend 12 string acoustic

Can anyone recommend a nice sounding 12 string acoustic guitar for under $1,000? I'm a fan or Martins, but the HD28-12string costs like $2200!!! The Martin DM12 costs $949 on MF, but I feel like I'm paying too much for laminate wood. Otherwise, for under $1,000 there's only low budget 12 strings by Fender and Takamine. I like Gibsons and Taylors, but there's no offering under $1,000... Are there any sweet sounding acoustic 12 strings out there made of solid woods and not HPL or cheap woods?

If you want to get one of the best 12 strings around by a Guild. Guild 12 string guitars are one of the few guitars that are designed to play at pitch (although I would still recommend tuning down a little). They have a truss rod sytem that can withstand all the added stress and the are resonable. If you can find a used one you can save yourself quite a bit of money. Check this one out.

I second the motion. Guild XII strings are where it's at. I've seen used Rhode Island models for under a grand.

That said, I have a Seagull XII string that I like a lot. The top is solid, tho the sides are mahogany laminate.

I have an Ibanez Artwood 12, that I really like, check them out- around 450.00 with pickup.

How do you like that seagull? Is it just the sides that are laminate, or is the back laminate too? I checked out the seagull website and they look like great guitars, but I'm weary of acoustics not made of solid woods. Am I right for thinking this way, or do laminates sound just as good as solid? :smack:

my ovation balladeer 12 string kicks ass. youll find it most places for $850 (i got it down to $725 incl. case though).

The back is laminated too. I don't think it negativly affects the sound, tho an all solid wood instrument does arguably sound better to me. I think the top is the most important piece of wood on any acoustic guitar, it seems to have the most affect on the sound, since it's primary function is to vibrate. The back & side are primarily reflective, but you can hear a difference between say, rosewood & mahogany bodies.

I've had the Seagull for over 10 years, it's been tuned to pitch almost all of the time. It's a very stable & good sounding instrument. I don't use it in a band setting, it makes too much racket, & I don't have a pickup in it anyway. I mostly use it when there's just me, of maybe one other guitar, & then I use a capo about half the time. It also sounds cool tuned to open D or G, with a glass slide.

try a tanglewood (TW15/12) they r english but made in china (so they r cheap) but they play and sound and look expensive they r great better then a most acoustic of a slighter higher (about $200-300) price range
