POD XT (regular) and VAMP

Re: POD XT (regular) and VAMP

if $$$ is a concern theres the PXR4, a pandora unit with a 4 track digital recorder for $300

Re: POD XT (regular) and VAMP

As I have said elsewhere, I used the POD 2.0 for about 4 1/2 years, and I am currently using the POD xt Live!

I play almost exlusively in church, but not in a setting that most of you envision when I say that. We have a professional sound system with a separate monitor mixer (Mackie 24.4.2), probably at least 10,000W of power amps, 8 PA cabs, 2 folded subs, etc. The building seats about 1200-1500. We play with a full band on Sundays: drums (V-Drums), bass, keyboard (Triton), acoustic guitar, 2 electric guitars, six front singers (in mics), choir with 2 choir mics, 2 wireless mics, plus the pastor's mic (ear-piece w/ clear tube?).

I play a Parker Nitefly-->Dynacomp-->POD xt Live!-->direct box-->to PA
I use the direct out of the DI box to run into a Hartke B30 bass combo for a monitor.

Someone referenced another thread about what to amplify a POD through...in a nutshell, this is what the thread says:

Run the POD into a keyboard amp or a bass amp. You want a full range speaker that DOES NOT color your tone (all electric guitar amps/speakers color the tone). Another option is an acoustic guitar amp combo.

The bass amp I use is not perfect, but it's certainly close enough to what goes into the PA for my monitor. I run the volume between 4-5. We try to keep our stage volume relatively low to simplify the sound-tech's job, and it also allows us to hear each other better.

For your purposes, it would probably work well. Here is the B30 new.

Also, a small keyboard combo can be had relatively cheaply, such as the low-end Peavey.

Trust me, although you can turn off amp models and speakers and use the POD as an effects unit into your amp, the true value of the POD will be lost if you don't run it through a PA of some type. The small amp combos (keyboard or bass) will serve your purpose.

ASIDE: The V-Amp is a great bang for the buck unit. However, it has a plastic housing and unreinforced plastic jacks that I do not trust for extended use or live applications. Go with the POD if you can.

Re: POD XT (regular) and VAMP

Actually, I remember some time ago I put the "crunch" setting of me V-amp right into the clean channel of a Marshall JCM2000 stack - BOY did that sound heavy!!!! Not sure how it fitted into a mix, but on its own it was amazing for rhythm.

Re: POD XT (regular) and VAMP

Ok great guys, I'll go with the PODxt for sure, I guess it's great for the 350 bucks. But Also I would like to get the AtomicReactor in order to amplify the POD without coloring it. How much does it cost?

Re: POD XT (regular) and VAMP

Ok nevermind guys, the AtomicReator costs $500. Then forget about the AtomicReactor, it's too expensive. I just found an amplifier speaker, and I think it will work well enough for the POD, I'll just bring it to the GuitarCenter shop, ask them if I could connect a POD to it, and I think it should work.

Re: POD XT (regular) and VAMP

Oh guys and also how much does the MetalPack that everyone is talking about cost? And is it worth it and will it suit my metal-needs lol. I want a Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Maiden, Sabbath/OZZY sound. Will the MetalPack suit those needs? And if you can, could you please tell me what Amp model will give me the suited sound for each band that I listed? I just want to try it out in GuitarCenter to see if it's good.

I haven't bought the metal packs for mine, there's plenty of metal amps already, two rectifiers, JCM800, JMP-1, SLO100, Agro, Insane and Spinal Puppet come to mind right now. All of them have their uses. Do not dismiss the L6 models! And, almost everything seems to sound better with a tube screamer in front of it.

About those bands, it naturally depends on which record of each band you wish to emulate. I'd go Spinal Puppet for Cowboys from Hell, older version of rectifier for Black Album. JMP-1 for modern Maiden, JCM-800 or Spinal Puppet for Megadeth and older rectifier for Zakk and JCM-800 for Randy. Hope that helps!

Re: POD XT (regular) and VAMP

Thanks, that's good info, now I just want to know about the Metal Pack, cause if it's 50 bucks and worth it, I'll shell out the extra 50.

Re: POD XT (regular) and VAMP

Personally, I'm digging the Tube Driver over the Tube Screamer lately.

You can get information on the model packshere.

Frankly, I'd HIGHLY recommend that you consider getting the POD xt Live

It has the same capabilities of the POD, but in a floorboard configuration. If you decide later to gig with the POD xt, you'll probably want footswitchable capability, and you'll have to spend MORE money to get a floorboard.

The POD xt Live also ships with the FX Junkie model pack already loaded for free.

Food for thought.

Re: POD XT (regular) and VAMP

Thanks, you really helped me. I don't really gig so I won't need the XTLive. The POD is great for me, just I nned to know if I could just download the serial code for the Metal Pack and if it is worth it.

Re: POD XT (regular) and VAMP

If your current amp has an auxillary in or cd/tape in, you can use that without coloring the sound as it bypasses the preamp of the amplifier. Ive used this method for the last 2 years for my BOSS MT2 and find I like it alot better than using the standard guitar input and running through the preamp.

Re: POD XT (regular) and VAMP

Ok, once I come back home I'll check out if my Ibanez TB15 has a cd/tape in, in the mean time could any of you guys check if you have one? I'll be here for a month and a half, so it will take time, and I doubt that the amp has that option...

Looks to me like your good to go. Here is the info I found on your amp.

If volume is your thing, this is the amp for you!

There are already plenty of electric guitar amps dedicated to recreating yesterday. Ibanez guitar amps are a different animal. Ibanez amps are voiced for today's tones. This is why Ibanez -the newest name in amps - is also the fastest growing name in amps.

Specifications:

output • 15W@4ohms
speaker • 8" Ibanez "POWER JAM" speaker
controls • Clean - Volume
• Channel Switch
• Overdrive - Gain/Volume
• Bass/Middle/Treble
jacks • Input/Headphones/CD Input
cabinet • Closed-Back cabinet with tuned port type
size • 340(W) x 340(H) x 200(D) mm

Yesssss! Lol yay I hope it will work, if not maximum I'll use the speaker that I have over here, my mom used it for vocal gigs but she connected a mike to it and it amplified the mike. If you could tell, do you think a mike-amp will work for a POD without coloring it's tone? And tell me more about the Metal Pack for the PODxt, is it worth the 50, will it suit my needs, and can I just dload the code that you get? Thanks guys, you really helped me!

Oh great guys I think I'll go with the PODXT. Now the only problem is how I will listen to the POD and only the POD. The amp will color the sound..I don't have a preamp/cabinets andI barely know what they are lol. I guess I could use my headphone but I donb't realy like all the wires while playing. But maybe I could listen through the PC speakers? If I get awesome speakers will the sound be good? And how much does a preamp/cabinet cost (minimum) if it is needed, and will it coor my PODsound? And could you please post a pic to the preamp/cabinet?

I suggest getting a PA system. I own a POD 2.0 and I recently got a PA system for around $300 and it sounds just awesome. Truely delivers the sounds of the POD without coloring them like an amp does.

Re: POD XT (regular) and VAMP

C'mon guys you were great and answered my questions I just need the P.A system question to be answered.
