Post your modded Strats!

I used to not really like Strats. I still kinda don't, to be honest. I don't like most single coils. I don't like round fretboards. I don't like most trems. But there's one thing that makes them so enjoyable to me: They're so modular and easy to mod! Everyone has a Strat, so everyone sells replacement parts for them. It's so easy to make them your own and imprint your personality into them. So that's what I did with mine, and I'm sure many others have.

Here is mine:

It has:
  • MIM Road Worn body from 2010
  • MIM Flat Oval baked Maple neck from 2023
  • HS pickguard
  • DiMarzio AT-1
  • DiMarzio SDS-1
  • Highwood saddles
  • Musiclily brass block
  • Schaller straplocks
  • Fender locking tuners
  • And of course a sticker from the kid's show that I worked on, LOL.
It's setup in Drop C with D'Addario 11-56.

I tend to fall in and out of love with it. Sometimes I hate it, sometimes I love it. I'm kinda loving it right now, so I wanted to show it off. But I think it's a good opportunity to see what other people have done with their Strats. So post yours as well, and let's talk about them! :D

Yes, you need to scallop it! Any new guitar I get from now on will be scalloped.

I have 2 strats..a 1982 'The Strat' that is stock, and a Warmoth I built for a Seymour Duncan blog. If I bought a new Strat, it would either be a Squier or a MIM Player, as I would probably mod it like crazy. I see no reason to buy an expensive Strat and then mod it to death.

I de-supered a superstrat to get what I wanted. :P

Pulled out the two humbuckers it came with, replaced with an SSL-5 in the bridge and SSL-1s in the neck and mid. Replaced the matte black pickguard with a gloss one. Added a push-pull pot to tap the bridge, added purple sparkle tone/volume knobs, ditched the 3-way switch for a 5 way switch with a purple sparkle tip. At one point I had a tremelno installed, but eventually tore it out as it just didn't work all that well for me.

It's like a regular strat with a really nice neck and a floyd.

Fine. Here it is AGAIN.

Fleor Hot Rails
Roller String Tree
Hello Kitty Windscreen/Mirror Decal
A few sprays of Mod Podge to protect the decal

I just remembered that I switched out the original volume pot for a Fender brand 500K pot I had lying around.
The tone pots are still the originals.

i will revisit this tomorrow, but i agree that strats a a great mod platform.

With this scheme, I might try to get a middle position that is the neck + bridge.

That was another thing, I specifically asked for the bridge not to be connected to the tone pot.

I wanted the switch configuration to be the same as that of Paul Gilbert's Fireman guitar. I'm not sure how his tone is connected.

I wanted this to be like me, Kurt Cobain, Jerry Cantrell, & Gavin Rossdale sat in a room together & designed a guitar.

1989 E-series MIK body
Warmoth baritone neck maple/ rosewood & no fret markers
Warmoth pickguard
Sperzel nonlocking tuners
Hot Rails w/ master volume
GraphTech saddles

You got the body the wrong way round on this one Ace, lacking attention to detail!

No Strats (yet?) and no tone pots here :)
- Charvel San Dimas, does throwing a pair of sexy Black Winters in and a proper push in Floyd trem arm count as modding? The fretwork was pretty rubbish from the factory, once corrected it's fantastic.
- LTD 200 something, bought it used really cheap, upgraded it to a JB-8 in the bridge, Jazz/59 hybrid in the neck and Gotoh 1996-T, it's probably my best sounding guitar and a very smooth player. I wish one day I get its body painted candy apple red just like Ace's Squire so it's perfect.
