Depends on the amp, really. I dig highgain graded JJ's in general, sometimes 9th gen Chinese, sometimes Tung-Sol in V1.

I use Scandinavian "Infinister" brand preamp tubes... they are constructed from the scales of the Lindworm dragons found within the furthest reaches of the Faroe Islands...

well ... I am all JJ right now ... 2 high gains, one gold pin, one balanced for PI, two E34Ls, not sure I like the last two, any love for SED's EL34?

Original RCAs in my blackface Deluxe Reverb.

I used Electro Harmonix pre tubes in my Marshall combo before I sold it. They were definitely better than the chinese whatevers that came in it.

I think mine are dark elf brand. Someone cast a DOT DMF spell on them.

I really JJs across the board for power amps, but I like Electro Harmonix in the Mesa pre-amps and JJs in everything else.

So does anybody else offer high gain ECC83s with dark, complex, glossy mids besides JJs. Any variaty for us shredknights?
