Practice Amps

I'm in the market for a small practice amp and was wondering it anyone has any suggestions.

My main amp is an Ashdown Peacemaker 40 (valve) and I like clean mellow tones.

I have tried the Roland Cube and I can't say I was very impressed.

The Peavy Transtube series is awsome, so is a little Stone amp, I forgot the model number, but it's friggin awsome.

Re: Practice Amps

Tech 21 TM10 is the thing, if you got the cash will say, it's very expensive for being a practice amp :D

I, me and myself have a Roland micro cube, works for me, i made some sound clips of the amp but they suck big time :D

I agree with the Tech 21 M10. This thing rocks for it's size, does Metallica even. I like to play my acoustic through it. I slightly compresses the sound and it sounds awsome. It is pricey. I bought a floor model for 190.00. I found that even low watt tube amps 15watts have to be driven to get nice tones then they are too loud. The clean channel is not very loud at all though. I use it instead of the pod.

Re: Practice Amps

How do you like your ashdown peacemaker? I picked up the 20 watt version off of ebay, brand new for 250 (needed a new meter on the front since it got broken on the show room floor) but all my friends love the sound of it. Just wondered what you thought of yours, cause I haven't really played too many other amps...though I'm dreamin to play a MESA Boogie rectifier (different tonal beast completely i'm sure)

What didn't you like about the Roland Cube? I bought a Cube 30 for home use a few months ago and I love it. Great range of usable tones, compact and portable and probably loud enough for small gigs too.

Re: Practice Amps

I'd recommend the Line 6 Spider II 30 watt 1x12 ($200 new) or the Line 6 Spider II 50 watt 1x12 ($300 new). For the money I think they are a great buy.

Re: Practice Amps

what about the crate v series? they have a 5 watt amp (tube)... i was looking at thoughs for a while. torres engeniering makes a 1.5 watt amp (tube). might try looking for an old fender champ 6 watts (tube). I just bought a vibrochamp and i cant wait for it to get here!

It's warm and mellow which suits me down to the ground. I nearly bought the 20w but ended up with a 40w as thats what the shop had in stock. I was really after a Cornford Harlequin, which in my view is the mutts nutts but could't justify the extra £230 quid at the time.

Wouldn't bother with the meter they hardly ever work and if they do you have to have it cranked up to see it move.

Dunno really just didn't like. I don't really go in for al that modelling stuff.

Re: Practice Amps

I'm a big fan of the small older Supro type tube amps. Can get them fairly cheap and the cleans are awesome (clean to cool break-up). I have a 10 watt 50's tweed supro and an 5 watt D ickerson. There cool as hell.

I have just had a look at the Crate V58 and it looks right up my street. But can't find any retailers in the UK!!!

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
