pretty sweet lesson by synyster gates (sweet solo)

LOL! That was horrible. I wouldn't categorize that as amazing. More like barely mediocre. And his "live" solo was even worse.

You want a kickass live solo? Watch someone from the '80s...like Jake E Lee for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWAohdmCl4o&search=jake e lee

I dunno brosif. It started off OK, got pretty good between one and two minutes, and then it just turned quickly to suck. He's good for sure, but that was overall a lame solo. Just the thing people ate up in 1984!

Dude don't judge them by the MTV performance. I saw that performance before I saw them live and went "oh no... what did I spend 60 bucks on?" MTV performance was a HORRIBLE mix, I wouldn't even doubt if they could hear themselves well that day to be honest. All you could hear was room noise during that performance.

I'm not judging just by that performance but by the stuff I've also seen on fuse tv, their actual songs, and all these synester gates solo videos everyone praises. In other words, I have yet to hear their singer actually "sing" worth anything. I have yet to hear the band actually play tight outside of the studio. I have yet to hear everyones new guitar hero sinister gates actually nail a solo that wasn't sloppy and tasteless as well.

If someone really enjoys their music then good, just don't label them like they are carrying the flag for the rest of respressed soloing/shred bands as our esteemed media has done. As Davey said, the solo never went away. Now it's just marketed to the mall-core crowds.

As far as the singer goes, he's the main reason I wouldn't listen to this band on a regular basis. Much too nasal-whiney--it's like he has a cool voice when he uses it the right way, but then he has to go and do this whining thing... Why?

Plus the drummer plays sped-up punk beats all the time... boom-chick-boom-boom-chick... But my background is more in metal and not punk, so go figure.

& who called Synyster a new guitar hero? I'm guessing the dude is just playing what he wants to play & doesn't see himself as the next Petrucci, but maybe I'm missing something. Man, I'd hate to find myself being compared to virtuosos like Petrucci and Vai when all I wanted to do was my own thing to fulfill my life's calling. That would bite!

Alright... enough.

I don't get the synyster hate these days! The guy is talented, there's no way around that. You may or may not like his style or think his playing is too many scales and not enough creative note-picking or whatever. But that entire album is fantastic, and when I saw them live in Hartford early this year, I shat my pants because they were surprisingly VERY good. I went in expecting them to not be able to pull off the leads and harmonies, but actually they did it and Synyster was amazing live.

I'll make my opinion, thanks very much. I think there was nothing special about any of that.

I agree. That particular song in question, i have to admit that i like it minus the punk rock style break down in the chorus (i think that sounds pretty damn horrible), and the solo isnt the best, and the rythem may be simple but i think it sounds great its got the kinda groove that i like. If you had of walked in on me about 30mins ago you woulda busted me jamming along to that riff <.<

its all BS. the solo never went away in the first place. people just got lazy and stupid and let mtv pick what they listen to and tell them what "good" music is

I agree about the MTV phenomenon. It's my opinion that, while I like the videos (on MTV7 or whichever one, or VH1), it does influence people too much at times. I was watching on BET prince was playing a Telecaster live in their band for their awards thing. Prince rocked! I was like "wow, if I had known he plays guitar that well...." I'd rather watch that than Synyster.

This is mallcore, and like nu-metal and other mallcore and emo stuff, it will go away with time, and people will forget them...And those who are interested in real metal, will find some good, long-lasting bands who aren't like this overhyped and overrated mallcore.

Re: pretty sweet lesson by synyster gates (sweet solo)

damn! this guy pretty much suck to everybody! i wish i had half his chops and creativity, i guess i totally suck , and for the haters you all should be famous like him! BTW i've seen them live twice recently and they put an awesome show!

Re: pretty sweet lesson by synyster gates (sweet solo)

its true, the band were easily the best 'stage show' at donington for me - there were very few great metal guitar solos at that festival, but a7x really came across as very confident and pleasing to watch.. synyster stood up and took a simple but quite well though out solo imo, and didnt really make mistakes to my ears - slurred a few notes, but they sounded like they were meant to be there.. they were on before mondo generator and within tempation though :smack:

his up-front solo was the only one i was the whole time - metallica might have done one, but i didnt see much of them..

tom

p.s - i though he'd make a good 'first shredder', for like beginner/intermediate guitarist trying to learn some simple but impressive sounding solos.. probably why he's doing a vid for total guitar (its the most beginner-orientated mag you can get it in the uk)

At least maybe they are trying to bring back the solo:)

Re: pretty sweet lesson by synyster gates (sweet solo)

But like mentioned earlier in this thread, the solo never went away.

Re: pretty sweet lesson by synyster gates (sweet solo)

it sure did.....it left the record companies money making agenda in the late 80's

Then why have I been able to find lots and lots of bands with solos, in that "no solo's period of time"? It never went away, and anyone saying so, either haven't heard the right bands, or are just plain ignorant.

Re: pretty sweet lesson by synyster gates (sweet solo)

Ok you win dude, I probably have not heard the right bands, and am just plain ignorant.

So tell me some good bands out there that have good songs with memorable guitar solo's in style of Jake E. Lee, Randy Rhoads, Eddie Van Halen, George Lynch etc. I would like to not to be so ingnorant.

Check out the Scandinavian metal scene if you want great metal and great musicianship. I could also name a ton of modern solo guitarists who are pulling off virtuoso stuff as well.

I mean no disrespect but you guys really have to get away from the major record labels and what you are fed through the mainstream media and do a little musical searching here. Some of the best bands and artists are the ones you'll never hear on the radio or on tv.
