time for one of these threads. I Have to move some shizzle.. Ive listed a few things in fee bay and get no bids. I wanna price the stuff right, but aint giving it away, so pls help. Also any time Ive listed here in the classifieds, I get no action.

I previously listed a BC rich gunslinger, mint, with straplocks and hard case for $400. nothing. Now I pawned it yesterday to pay car insurance and buy groceries, so its gone..

I listed a Washburn HM24. Mint with deluxe gig bag that has straplocks, a duncan jazz/alt 8 combo. for $350. this one is 2008 bought new in 2010. Has the phenolic board. Non trems run $200. These guitars should have sold for 600-800 cuz they are freaking killer, but whatever.. is 350 unreasonable??

Im now listing a Limited edition Trans black Epi les paul. with gig bag. This is like new. will prob put stock pups back in and has straplocks.. Its a great LP and amazing for an epi. What should I list for?

Listing a 1988 Charvel 4. in VERY good to excellent shape. only a couple of scuffs and dings. Straplocks, mid boost works, orig chainsaw case. Has JB2 in it, but will include orig bucker. How much??

Listing a 1990 RG570 in almost mint shape. Hard case, straplocks, Dtuna, PATB3, dimarzion VV blues/ duncan 59b in neck. $$?

1992 USA Washburn Grover jackson designed MG104. Blue quilt top. only one or two minor chips, straplocks, orig hard case, german schaller trem, Custom 8 bridge, 59/4 neck $$?

1997 USA Washburn MG130 steve Salas model. Bought new a couple years ago. blue quilt top over mahog body and set neck. German floyd, straplocks, hard case. Grover Jackson designed. has Duncan cool rails neck/middle and JB bridge. excellent shape. very rarely played. Has a couple of small scuff that were there when I bought it. $$?

2002 Traben SLE Bass with hard case. These were a special anniversary model and listed for $900+. Its in mint shape, a great player. Dunlop straplocks, flame maple top, maple board with black flame inlays. active pups. $$?

May sell my 2009 Dean Soltero Bella noir with hard case.. This is #5 of a limited run of 24. Mint. has Mountain of tone bridge pup, nostalgia neck. straplocks. mahog body/neck, ebony board with MOP blocks.. $$?

Peavey Ultra plus Head.. mint

what stinks is knowing that Im losing $50 of every sale to paypal and ebay fees..

Thanks...

Re: pricing ideas

That HM24 sounds mighty interesting to me. Always wanted to try one, and I'm digging the pups. Now I just need to find $350!

Re: pricing ideas

For the RG

Low end : I just bought a '00 RG570 that had a pretty beaten up body without a HSC for $300 shipped to Canada. I think that was a bit too much for the US market for this one, but shipping to Canada you always take a hit.

Medium : A while back I paid $400 shipped canada for a 91 RG560 with HSC that was pretty mint...if thats the same RG you had on in December my 560 could be its twin, very similar color

High : The RG550's seem to command more, I see them go for mid $400's.

HTH

Re: pricing ideas

Fee Bay. That's a good one.

Don't you keep your stock pickups? Never sell guitars with upgraded pickups if you can help it. It's like giving them away.

I have the stocks in many cases.. quite honestly, right now, my time, health and all, its too much hassle to find the old ones and swap em out..

Re: pricing ideas

I would put in the original pups that saves some some hundred bucks. Maybe have a friend or bandmate to do this.

I would sell beginning with one dollar, you can cancel or use a 'reserve price not met' function.
You should state that the paypal fee and ebay fees should carry the buyer.

Re: pricing ideas

I don't think your prices are bad, so it's not that. People are just still broke and struggling, and are trying to get their heads above water still from this economy, inflation, gas, and everything else that life throws at you.

Re: pricing ideas

hamer and Jolly pretty much nailed the situation.

Buyers love receiving upgraded gear but they use the alterations as grounds for beating down the price. You cannot win - especially when your modifications have turned the guitar into something killer.

I am outside the USA. I am in no position to judge what your local market valuations might be.

You're outside the USA? I did not know that... I just always assumed you lived in the states. ;)

And, as far as prices, Jolly hit the nail on the head. Even fair prices aren't moving goods because people everywhere are struggling.

Your best best is to see if you can find an oil company executive to buy your stuff. They're the only ones making any money right now. :banghead:

Nope. Check out the new SDUGF Google map. I don't really live in the middle of a roundabout but you can see my place from there.

The locations that I post under my forum ID and avatar are fictional, usually with a Zappa/Beefheart theme.

I hope so. I am currently doing contract work on an oil refinery. If the executives are losing money, I could be made redundant.

APOLOGIES FOR HIJACK. BACK TO THE PLOT.

That's it!

I can't even get a lowball offer on the stuff I have for sale.

I see insanely low prices all of the time for music stuff on Nashville's Craigslist. It honestly blows me away how low some of the prices are. The thing is, it's stuff that I don't want or need about 99% of the time.

Re: pricing ideas

I still want your Charvel Model 4 when I get some cash. Now that I am working again, maybe I can buy it before too long. Your price is more than fair I think.

Re: pricing ideas

Just PM'd you, but if you will sell the PATB3 separately I will give you a good price...
My pms are full, (seemed to blow up with pickup requests all the sudden..) so, couldnt respond there. will contact you if I pull it..

I do all the work what few guys I know..

Yeah, I know. Bad time to sell and GREAT time to buy! Thats the ONLY way I aquired so many.. I sure as heck dont have the money. I scored great deals . I bought a bunch of old Japanese kramers and charvels and stuff when the Japanese stuff went waay down and I was working three jobs. Turned it around to buy other stuff. Now, my part time jobs bottomed out cuz of the economy and Im struggling too. Plus, Ive gotten real about my needs vs my talent (or lack thereof)

Hmm dont believe I listed a price for that one. Its a great axe, I hate to sell it.

truth be told, I love em all and would love to keep em all scoop up a bunch more while prices are low.. haha

Re: pricing ideas

In fairness to you, just judging from the price of the Gunslinger, Maybe the prices are a touch too high. New Gunslingers go for $550-$600 so paying $400 for a used one is a little high. I've always lived by the rule that I'm gonna get about 50% of what I put into it back. If I'm lucky on something high end like one of my Riches or Jacksons maybe break even or lose a couple hundred. (Example would be knowing that last summer I bought a brand new KV2 for $1800 knowing I could immediately sell it for $1200 if in a pinch but would have to really be patient and lucky for more at any time) It's just the way it goes. Speaking to the gunslinger specifically, unless this was an original from the 80s, it cannot command a $400 price used.

I don't want to speak specifically to the rest of your stuff lest I seem like I'm insulting your gear. Only thing I'll say is unless it's a Gibson or Fender, age drives the price down and used gear even though it's quality gets hammer hard as well unless it's one of the above. People will pay the money for a used Gibson or Fender cus it has 'mojo'. But a used Washburn or Ibanez? Not so much. It's a buncha horse**** if you ask me but its the way it goes. I had no problem making money on a 25 year old Les Paul a few years ago but try when I tried to sell my ESP Custom I got hammered hard. And that was before the economy tanked.

point taken. I also appreciate your tact. Im not trying to make a profit, only not lose my butt. most of my pricing I try to arrive on an intelligent figure based on what I see them selling for. My gunslinger is a reissue, but it has the orig floyd and dimarzio super d, (which are no longer stock), plus mine has straplocks and a nice hard case.
As far as the others, Im asking for price ideas as to what seems fair. I listed condition and all. I see that alot of the guitars like the Charvel 4 are listing high on ebay again. But again Im asking for ideas. Yeah, the stuff is special to me, and yeah, I could really use as much money as I can come up with.. BUT.. I have to be real and set the prices to where they will be attractive.
Thats why Im asking all my gearho bros out there. :thanks:

Re: pricing ideas

I thought you had sold the HM24 or I would have bought yours. I did however need a fixed bridge guitar for drop tuning.
Prices seem ok to me but folks are just all BROKE right now and a lot is due to these Gas prices!

Re: pricing ideas

Selling is hard right now. I've had better luck with trades plus cash or trading for smaller items like pedals, pickups, or microphones.

I had an Epiphone Wilshire reissue that I think I spent $200 on. I was having a hard time selling it and someone offered me a few pedals and a microphone. After selling everything and shipping cost I think I made about $20 bucks. It wasn't a home run and it took longer to sell everything, but I didn't loose out on the deal.

It is easier to unload the smaller stuff because you can spread it out among more people. More people are willing to shell out $50 for a pedal, but finding someone to buy the the guitar is tougher.

Also take the time to restore the guitar back to stock as much as possible! You won't make your money back on after market pickups as many people use it as a way to talk you down. Put the original strap buttons on too. Strap locks cost good money no sense in giving them away. Same goes for the upgraded hardware. If you can put the original back on do it. Then sell the guitar and the upgrades separate.

As for asking prices on your gear check out the completed listings on eBay so you get an idea of what the items are actually selling for. Some times there is a big difference between asking and selling prices.
