Project Parts & Tips

Hello everyone,

I recently picked up a beautiful project body and neck, which I bought Production Floor Custom humbuckers for (pictured). For anyone who is curious, the body/neck are from an Aria Pro II RS, which I believe is an alder body. I'm almost done with the "parts acquisition" phase of the project - the picture just gives me an idea of what this baby will look like when it's complete - but before I move on, there are a few things I'm still curious about...

1: Potentiometers - I'm definitely going to go with a 500k push-pull pot, but I'm debating if getting two would be worthwhile so that the 2 pickups could be split individually. I like the idea of blending the single coil and humbucker sound, and with a 3-way switch (which I have) I could theoretically get 8 different hum/sing pickup combinations. Has anyone tried this and could explain if it's effective and/or worthwhile?

2: Neck Plate - This guitar has neck plate dimensions that I have never encountered before... 2" x 1-1/4" from the center of each hole. I can't seem to find anything on line. Would anyone know where to find one?

3: And Lastly, a Stupid Question - The pickups came wrapped in electrical tape around the perimeter of the bobbins. Keep it or no?

Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Awesome body! Reminds me a bit of my Joe satriani strap pattern.

1 I say go for the two pot system. Some guys will say that splitting the neck isn't worth it in some cases but I'm all for versatility. Even if you don't like it you can change the one to a series parallel or out of phase mod

2 can't help you here but you could modify it for individual screw ferrules like you find on those guitars with contoured heels

3 keep that tape on there. It's protecting the wire. If you take it off there's a chance the wire could get snagged or break, effectively killing your pickup.
