PRS Mayer Strat

Re: PRS Mayer Strat

Well, I bet the first run is sold out. So if I like it (or him) or not doesn't matter- it probably makes both PRS and JM a ton of money. We can debate how silly it all is, but in all honesty, this is how the industry works.

Re: PRS Mayer Strat

Well it might have something to do with you can pull a brand new PRS out of the case and be confident you can play it on a gig that's starts in two minutes. Fender? Not so much.

I've been able to do exactly what you described with every Fender I've ever owned. :p

Try again.

Re: PRS Mayer Strat

I would have liked it better if PRS did something more original with it but kept the ergonomics of Strat controls. Like offset double cut/Kestral style body or something, and back route the controls instead of the ugly pickguard covering 80% of the front. Oh wait, didn't they already do that?

Re: PRS Mayer Strat

... it all comes down to john plays prs now and wanted a strat so paul built him one knowing that people will buy it

Why is everyone acting like this isn't obvious? Wasn't Mark Tremonti something of an inspiration for the PRS Singlecut?

Re: PRS Mayer Strat

I’d play it. Anytime John Mayer guitar anything happens, it makes me happy because all the internet nobodies start saying really funny stuff. I’m not into his pop stuff, but I’d love to see any of the trolls jam with him.

I agree here....same with Bonnamassa. Oh, how the Internet loves to talk smack. But both of those guys are world class players.

Re: PRS Mayer Strat

I have to say: a Tele without the abominable Tele headstock would be an improvement, and the PRS actually works nicely there.

Well, that's mainly my hangup with it. I mean, I'm not a fan of teh guitar, but there are lenty of gutiars out ther I wouldn't touch that are selling like hot cakes, so that's irrelevant. My main point of interest is "is this a smart and/or profitable business move". Making small runs of ANYTHING is pricey, as it must be leveraged against projected profits, right? If this guitar doesn't sell enough units for PRS to make their investment back, then it's not a very good idea. Unless of course the PR value and brand association (in this case, Mayer himself) is worth more than the money spent on building the guitar.
