PRS Tremonti SE vs. SE Singlecut

I'm going to sell the Epiphone LP and replace it with a PRS Singlecut model, but I can't decide between the 2 models.
Anyone played either guitar?

When I'm looking at the pro's and con's I might say that the SE Singlecut seems a little better overall with a maple cap and the moon inlays.
I like the Tremonti control layout better but it's not a big deal.

Are there any more differences in construction or used hardware?

btw. how's the bottom end on these guitars? It's quite dissapointing on my Epi, which is one of the reasons I'm selling it.

I'm most likely wrong, someone will correct me for sure, but aren't the SE just covered with a veneer instead of a cap?

All I can tell you. Hope you post pics of what you choose.

Cool. It's just an aesthetic detail but there's still a cap. For what, 500$, I'd go for it.

Is the Singlecut SE a carved top?

I need to get this stupid PRS bug out of my system and this seems like the cheapest way available.

Like his music or not the guy can play, I've seen video clips of him warming up backstage and he can wail. He was playing old school Metallica and Black Flag, and doing a bit of shredding.

i owned a black Tremonti SE for awhile. it was a pretty good guitar. i ended up getting trading it to a buddy of mine. he replaced the pickups with a jb and a 59 and put sperzel locking tuners on it as well. i think he is thinking about selling it.

So how did you like it? Does it has a chunky neck? It says on the site that is has a wide/fat carve on the neck, hope it's not too wide?

Yeah the singlecuts both have a carved top, not as much as the real Singlecuts but the body certainly ain't flat.

I like Tremonti's playing and tone, but I don't like the name on the headstock either. But that's nothing a sticker or something can't solve ;).

To me these guitars seem like the best bang for the buck out there currently, and it even says PRS on the headstock! Screw Ibanez! :D jk

I've got the platinum Tremonti SE. Best guitar I found under $1000, period. No matter the name on the headstock. The Tremonti name is not what drew me to the guitar. I even preferred it over LP studios, at the least the ones I compared it to. Build quality was excellent all around, and no I don't work for PRS.
I did replace the pickups with a Super Distortion in the bridge and Norton neck. The neck is rather chunky, wide fat is a good description of it. But I'm a big guy so I love it.

They were, a year or so ago ;). That suit has since been thrown out and they are back in production. Even so, you can pick up a pre-lawsuit Tremonti SE on Ebay pretty easily.

No one can debate the guy can play. I actually thought he had a very interesting and unique style, a rare characteristic at this day and age.

But Jesus the guys tone sounded like a bag of smashed *******s and Creed as a band was enough to set "edginess" in rock and roll back a solid decade or two.

I agree, a lot of his tones didn't sit well with me, and my liking Creed ended after My Own Prison for the most part. That was a pretty cool album but his dirty tone is just nasty (I blame the Mesa :laugh2: ). I believe he has a history of using Matchless and Fender amps for his cleans, which I've always thought were nice sounding.

Wow nice looking guitar! I dig the blue bobbins a lot!
How's the bass response/ low end chunk on that guitar? I've found many guitars below $1000 that lack seriously in this departement, must be one downside of cheaper wood. For instance I have a Gibson SG that is a 2 piece body but damn this thing sounds big and has plenty of bass even with low output mini humbuckers. Then I grab my Epi LP and it has a hotter tone but with much less bass response. I noticed the difference on Gibson LP's too, even the Specials. Know what I'm talking about?

Did you guys ever listen to Alter Bridge? Love his tone there, very heavy with balls to the walls. Too bad he uses wah on most of his solo's.
