PRS Vs LTD

Re: PRS Vs LTD

To answer the original question:

None of us know what the best guitar for you is. You have to go play a bunch of them and tell us...so go play a bunch of them.

Secondly....it doesn't matter what guitar you're using if you plug into a Marshall MG100...it's gonna sound like garbage.

Thirdily...the one thing that you can't upgrade on cheap guitars is actual wood quality. You can sometimes get lucky and find a cheap guitar made with decent wood but it's not the same as a nice high-end instrument where the pieces used for the neck and body were specifically picked-out to compliment eachother then are assembled with precision.

Just makin sure nobody's gonna leave this thread thinkin a hot-rodded LTD is ever gonna be the same as something that costs more than $2000.

The cool thing is, you don't have to spend Musician's Friend prices for everything. You can buy used and find awesome deals and get decent gear for not a lot of money.

When I was 16 i was using a USA Fender Strat I paid $420 for into a vintage 68 Fender Bassman head I paid $450 for. You just gotta know where to look man.

xander hit the nail on the head.

and hes SO right about the marshall.

Re: PRS Vs LTD

BEHRINGER V TONES ARE LEGENDARY

some of the best "affordable" amps ive ever played though!!!

and yeah, im done with crappy guitars.

dont feel bad bro, in the future youre going to be in our position. :)

nobody starts off with cool gear.

i started with an epi les paul special and a peavy amp i had no idea how to operate.

you see ... you started with something and then had a journey and changed guitars many times.

i can gurantee you that for me its gonna be no journey... it'll be just one guitar and thats it.. hence i'm having all this discussion and being a pain in the a$$. otherwise i could have just got myself an IBANEZ, but when i played an Ibanez (after playing a Jackson Warrior) i felt like throwing up..

i mean i cant describe the way i hate Ibanez guitars, the horrible tone they have. HENCE i'm in a difficult position deciding between ltd and prs.. and besides theres no PRS guitar in the shops.. but i have tried others..

That Ibanez tone could have been the horrible stock pickups, or it could have been the basswood.

Go mahogany, and throw a Duncan Custom (SH5/TB5 depending on the bridge) in it, and you'll have something that will handle metal with clarity.

Re: PRS Vs LTD

BTW, Rondo sells guitars so cheap because they're all imports. The Douglas and SX (mostly sub-$200) ones are made in China, The Agile ones (usually $200+) are made in Korea. That V you linked to is made out of basswood. Go for the Rhoads copy (with the stripes) that I linked to if you want a "metal" shape, it's made of Mahogany.

I've got a BC Rich Avenge SOB:

beast_avenge.jpg

made out of Basswood, and I've tried about 8 different pickups (Duncans, Dimarzios, GFS) in it so far. I've got a decent tone now with a GFS Crunchy Rails, but the journey was a pain. :D

oh you can guarantee it, can you?

you haven't even played one of the guitars you're thinking of having be "your one and only guitar" and you can GUARANTEE it's gonna be perfect for everything all the time and the only guitar you ever want?

well i've been wrong in the past but i can pretty much guarantee that you'll be like everybody else and end up owning several different guitars over the years.

I know guys who were playing guitar in the 60's and 70's that owned and sold or traded real 50's Gibsons, Marshall JCM800's and other impossibly awesome gear...and they still come to my shop looking for something their current guitars are missing.

I can guarantee that if you went to any larger-than-average guitar shop you could easily pick 15 guitars that you would be more than happy to own. And I can guarantee you'd think of 15 more if you bought those guitars.

I dont know if that stung or not... but Pockets is absolutely right. ive owned gibsons and LTDs and all kinds of fenders and im still out looking for more.

dont knock ibanez, my jet king 1 served me extremely well.

only reason why i dont play it anymore is that i wanted a different sound, but for its time as my main guitar, it rocked and rocked hard.

Interesting. What Ibanez did you try, and what didn't you like about it? That's like saying I tried a Fender once and didn't like it. It tells you nothing.

Re: PRS Vs LTD

yeah sorry if the tone of that last post was kinda harsh but i really am trying to help you man...we all go thru phases.

When i was 14 all i wanted was hi-gain heavy metal insanity so i bought a BC Rich Warlock. Once i mastered "Raining Blood" and my musical tastes evolved I needed better cleans and got a Fender Strat...thus beginning an epic Fender phase where no other brand was good enough for me.

Then I played a real 1958 Gibson Les Paul and have been basically hypnotized by Gibson ever since...although the current trend of 80's-style Ibanez have kinda been catching my eye lately...

anyway, if your idea is to save up and spend your money on ONE awesome guitar, no $400 anything is gonna be awesome enough...and you'll never know what makes a guitar awesome without going out and trying several.

we all might have an idea of what makes guitars awesome TO US but none of us have any idea what's awesome to you, bro.

It's too bad you don't live in Atlanta cuz i'd have you playing every $150 Squier and every $6,000 custom shop Les Paul in my shop if i could man. doesn't take long to realize the difference between 'bad' and 'good' but it can take a lifetime to figure out what's perfect for you man.

it took me 7 guitars to find my fascination with fender.

the same thing will happen to you too bro. :friday:

I'm sorry to tell you but you can find diamonds that do the same as something that costs more than $2000. My H500 is an example of this. It was one of the first production models for 2007. You can absolutely tell this axe was given special treatment. The neck is two piece. The body is three piece. That is the majority of where the cost difference is. Meanwhile, there are plenty of $2000 guitars that lack mojo.

yeah but most 500 dollar guitars arent as good as say, a gibson les paul custom.

believe me :banghead:

Re: PRS Vs LTD

I love hearing from people who keep running into the great cheap guitars and the lousy expensive guitars. They can keep searching for those diamonds and discounting great guitars as being overpriced. Funny, but for some reason I keep on getting what I pay for. I've already found guitars that I like; I'm done kissing frogs.

same here.

you really do get what you pay for.

not exactly.. its just that im a little low on the financial status.. (embarrased smile)... thats why i cant afford to get many guitars a year!

thanks for scaring me!! haha...

Interesting. What Ibanez did you try, and what didn't you like about it? That's like saying I tried a Fender once and didn't like it. It tells you nothing.

well it had a tremolo and 22 frets and the Jackson Warrior had 24 frets and a tremolo...

actually i played some riffs on the Warrior and some shredding .. i thought the Warrior's a good guitar with a fine tone.. when i played the Ibanez.. the cleans sounded like a bass guitar... the riffs sounded like WITHOUT DISTORTION.. the solos (the tone) was somewhat lifeless to me.. (the Jackson's riffs were very crunchy.. the solos were bright and sharp sounding)...

anyway, if your idea is to save up and spend your money on ONE awesome guitar, no $400 anything is gonna be awesome enough...and you'll never know what makes a guitar awesome without going out and trying several.

i understand that... but i don't want a PERFECT guitar (just a good guitar worth my hard earned money).. the only way to get me dream guitar is to order a custom:

V shape
Mahogany body
Mahogany neck
22 or 24 frets
String through body Tune o Matic bridge
Jackson KV2T style headstock (o i love that headstock)
24.75 or 25.5 scale length doesn't really matter
Set neck/Neck through
NO FLAMED MAPLE TOPS
Chrome Hardware
No pickguard
Seymour duncan pus (may b those sh n tb10 full shred)
Black Gloss finish

haha.. too much to ask for right?

vermilion, if all you want is metal, just go LTD. seriously.

how about a little of opeth's progressiveness? but you're right anyway.. i mostly shred and play riffs and solos.. not really into the cleans and neoclassical stuff (i'm not a dream theater fan so i'm not into music like that)
but yes mostly metal...
