Putting in a push/pull pot

I don't really know how to do this, is it any different to installing a normal pot? I am replacing pickups as well which I think I have a pretty good idea of how to wire up to a push/pull control. Put does anyone have any pointers as to how to install one? Also should it be put in as the volume or tone? The Seymour Duncan wiring diagram says volume. I'll attach a photo as well to see if there is enough room for it.image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

It really isn't different from installing any other pot, except that you obviously need to wire up the switch. Volume vs. tone doesn't technically matter either; I've tried both and generally prefer a tone control whenever possible as it's harder to hit by mistake.

Re: Putting in a push/pull pot

agreed. either is fine but if im only doing one, i use the tone pot

Re: Putting in a push/pull pot

It looks like enough room from the pic. I usually use volume, but it really is a personal preference. I actually like push/push pots, as they are ergonomically easier to use, but finding good quality ones is really a pain.

Re: Putting in a push/pull pot

The pot functions and switch functions are separate. So you wire up the pot for the pot function you need, and the switch for the switch function you need.

Re: Putting in a push/pull pot

If there is any doubt whether the push pull pot will fit in there, then remove the plastic knob & loosen the nut, the present pot will come out from the back & you dont need to unsolder, put the P/P pot in there to see if it fits. You could even measure the length & verify w/o removing anything.

I would suggest the tone pot placement for the P/P pot as well.

Re: Putting in a push/pull pot

Dimarzio pots are made by CTS. They're good quality but pricey. You might most probably have to widen the current holes to make them pass through, just going by with the pics you provided it looks like factory stock pots are Alpha ones & those usually have thinner bushing diameter.

Re: Putting in a push/pull pot

Watch out for the taper. When I was looking both linear and log were not available in long shaft. (Has this changed, anyone?)
