Hey guys, its gunna be time soon enough for a new guitar. I stumbled into a guitar center in boston and picked up a jackson SL3 solist. Everything seemed to be perfect. The pickups, the neck, and the floyd rose i can deal with (i already have a gibson sg). Everything was perfect until i looked on the back of the neck, and as many know this model is a japanese model. I was pretty bummed, i was lookin forward to another USA guitar. I was wondering, hows the quality on japanese jacksons? This one in particular? Any and asll imput would be great. Also if any alternatives feel free to chime in.

Im going to be gone for about 2 or so hours, so sorry in advance when i dont get back but when i get back to a full thread ill be very happy- thanks in advance!

Re: Quality on Japanese soloist?

soloists get even more attention than other japan jacksons get.

wait till zerb chimes in, but i can tell you that the quality is pretty much on par with the usa ones, but the components are cheaper (knock off floyd, cheaper pups) what you get is a solid guitar with cheap electronics. the vital parts are high quality and thats what matters.

zerberus even said that the korean (or chinese..??) js30 models arent half bad

If everything was perfect then why does it matter if it was made in Japan?

The Japanese soloists are, workmanship and wood wise, every bit as good as the USA ones. As Davey stated, what they save on pickups and Trem they put back into materials and attention to detail, unlike most other companies that cut the corners "equally" on all components. Biggest difference other than that is the rosewood fretboard as opposed to ebony on most USA models. Definitely a great bang for the buck. If i couldn´t get a USA Jacksons for a similar price used I´d probably be buying these myself :headbang:

BTW, the JS30 models are made in India, The only Korean models were the (short lived) performer series. And I THOUGHT that Jackson had NEVER made guitars in China, but I only recently found out that for about 6 months they actually DID produce low end Charvel Strat-knockoffs there, wasn´t a pleasant surprise for me, but it´ws something I can live with seeing as it´s i the past and is no longer a consideration ;)

I love mine. Everything I put in it sounds great, it plays great, and for being a licensed Floyd, actually rarely goes out of tune.

Re: Quality on Japanese soloist?

Awesome guitars, but if you got the greens, nothing beats the USA. It's awkward to hear it, and even for me to explain it, because the MIJ Soloists are superb guitars. Yet, somehow the ultra polished frets, ebony fingerboard and the trademark Floyd Rose set in for a showcase of a guitar. Kind of like having moving from your magazines to the real deal. Both rock, but once you've gone big time, there's no turning back!

NOTICE: I didn't bring up the pickups, because the $1049 MIJ Soloist I played sported a JB and two unidentified SCs (Classic Stacks?). Maybe they were additionally put in, but in either case...that's the deal! WORD to Jackson!

Re: Quality on Japanese soloist?

I say go for it!! While I love my USA Soloist, I would be stoked on the Japanese version if I didnt have the cash to go all the way. But I must mention that I LOVE the ebony fretboard on my SL1.

Re: Quality on Japanese soloist?

Ebony IMO Rules as a fretboard wood, from a playing standpoint. Just feels "right", so smooth and fast.

Although Tonally I usually prefer Ebony on most designs as well ;)
