*** Rare Gibson Custom Shop

Re: *** Rare Gibson Custom Shop

I wonder if this is Aldo's, or one of Rick's? As far as I'm concerned, this is trying to be two things it's not, and failing at both.

Re: *** Rare Gibson Custom Shop

They are pretty cool, but only pretty cool people like Rick Nielsen, Aldo Nova, and Steve Dallas have them. Don't believe everything you read either. There are a few versions. They made one for Steve Dallas....he put a double cream 59/Custom hybrid in it.

You mean the way a Dean Cadillac is trying to be a Les Paul and an Explorer? I don't know...seems pretty successful to me.

I wouldn't buy one of those either, but I actually think the Cadillac is more successful, in that it so obviously meshed the æsthetics of two different guitars all over. Here, it is basically Les Paul body and Explorer neck.

Of course, it you like it, more power to you!

Re: *** Rare Gibson Custom Shop

For the discerning, there are similar products like the Les Paul Studio for $455 or the Epiphone Les Paul for $2## and change. Something for everyone.

Re: *** Rare Gibson Custom Shop

It's not my cup of tea, especially at that price. However, if you wanted a conversation piece; that's something other guitar guys would notice for sure.

Re: *** Rare Gibson Custom Shop

I kind of like those. I've seen one or two at most pop up for sale over time. Of course, IMHO, the price on that one is pretty ridonkulous.

Re: *** Rare Gibson Custom Shop

That's the XPL series that only lasted 2 years (1985-86), I believe. Rumor has it that it was Gibson's way of clearing out extra parts, strictly labeled Custom Shop because it didn't fit any standard production guitar. They did V's, DC's, LP's all with explorer necks, as well as a more shred version Xplorer. No way remotely worth $10k. :smoker:

Re: *** Rare Gibson Custom Shop

Only $100 for shipping and it comes with a picture of Rick Nielson? Hmm...
