I'm thinking about buying a re-cone kit for my already re-coned G12-65s because it rattles. The previous owner said that it was sort of a DIY job by a good tech, so I don't know what the tech used to re-cone it. The paper used, though having the right grooves/riffles, it's a LOT thicker than the original cone. While it's useable and sounds good, it does rattle.
Rather than try to get it to a tech and repair it, I'm thinking if I should just buy a couple of re-cone kits and bring it to a tech so I know it has the right parts and restore it to its "original" condition?
Or should I just buy 2x ET-65s ($70 each) from WGS?
The re-kits are going to be less expensive ($53 each kit), but I might end up with the same costs consider what I will pay the tech. However, I should end up with an "original" Rola Celestions.
On the other hand -- the WGS route will give me a chance to try their recommendation of ET-65 + Veteran 30 combo (which sounds like a good idea), and get them in 16ohm versions. The re-cone kit is only available in 8 ohms.
Comments and suggestions?
