Real guitar or stage prop?

Re: Real guitar or stage prop?

Zoot's epic version of Eleanor Rigby with a young Rick Springfield on guitar:

I've always liked the guitar solo in Jessie's Girl, and just recently found out that it was Neil Giraldo that played it.

Re: Real guitar or stage prop?

Just caught this thread. I'm Tony Cochran who created the 3 guitars Rick Springfield bought & is playing on his tours. The guitar discussed here is the Separatorcaster & is fully functional. Rick also bought the Coppercaster & Alumicaster for the tour & the guitars are pictured with him on his CDs. All of my guitars are functional art. Check out video of Rick & others playing them at http://www.tonycochranguitars.com/videos.html Check out my other guitars & "rumors" on the site. Nice.

I don't know that it rises to the level of "fan", but I like Rick's music.

There is an interesting documentary about him on Netflix that we watched a couple of months ago.

He has some rabid fans.

That was in the Premier Guitar interview - he was the first guitar player on MTV, AND "Jesse's Girl" was #1 on the same day.

Real guitar or stage prop?

Met Rick several times and have talked with George about what George uses on stage. Rick has been playing for several decades, also in a lead guitar capacity. The dude knows his guitars his 80s lead guitarist, current session man Tim Pierce has talked about some little Marshall combo amps they found and had Marshall make them clones in the 80s.

Lately, I believe Rick goes straight into a few Bogner heads. George goes into a JCM 800 with minimal effects.

The guitar in the OP is pretty much a SG with some steampunk stuff attached to the face. It does work. He's played several types of guitars over the years and has used SG styles as far back as the 60s.

He's a nice dude as well. In 2010, he signed a few photos of me and him that I took to my Granny when she went into assisted living. She would get visits from all over the facility from people wanting to see her photos of Rick, which always made her day.

Thanks for posting Tony! I appreciate you taking the time. Your guitars are awesome!

Re: Real guitar or stage prop?

Rick isn't a very good player IMO but he's one hell of a songwriter. And has great taste in guitars!
