Ditto. When I was a pedal junkie The EMG's in my ESP Explorer sounded way better than my passive loaded SG. But on the flipside may passive loaded SG sounds better plugged straight in than the Explorer. It had more charactor.

No... the reason a mic shocks someone is because it isn't properly grounded, and uses the persons lip as a path to their hands, guitar, amp, and finally, to the ground . It's like being hit by lightening on a much smaller scale.




that hurts bad. I almost got my band kicked out of a under 18 only place when I was in high school for the cursing. I shocked myself many times that night

the main reason why i prefer actives to passive:

- The eq of the emg85 is exactly what i like to hear from a pickup. I still got to find a passive pickup that is equialized like that........most passives(at least all the ones i have tried) fail to satisfy my EQ needs.....

- I don't use any overdrive pedals e.t.c for my distortion sounds....i like to get my distortion from the amp..............Active pickups have enough output to drive the front end of an amp and offer a wide range of sounds.....from mild overdrive (use your volume control) to heavy distorted sounds which passive pickups won't give you unless you use a booster ......

- they are quiet

- they are versatile

- the cope well with fx

Since i do not want this post to become a proEMG pickup post here is what i DO NOT like about actives:

- My main problem lies with the emg single coils series......While they give a nice clean sound (although a little bit clinical) i was never able to get that nice bluesy "clean but dirty" guitar sound......I always prefered passive singles for clean/lightly overdriven bluesy guitar sounds. The fact though i like so much the distortion/solo sounds i get from my emg85 makes me to accept the compromise and use emg SAs for the neck/mid position of my guitars....

i enjoy emgs because they are different. they seem to have their own unique vibe...also they are extremely quiet, and leave most of the tone up to your amp.
