Reb Beach in Whitesnake?

Re: Reb Beach in Whitesnake?

Ok, so 8 measures or so aren't. :fingersx: Still, everything else is him.

LOL! Yeah, but in all honesty...and yet another reason why we're all in agreement that Sykes was ****ed...is that those 8 bars (or whatever the HIGA solo is) is the solo on the most heard, played, repeated whitesnake song out there...

So back at ya :chairshot

Re: Reb Beach in Whitesnake?

I'all agree Huff is a monster, but I didn't like the radio edit of HIGA. Maybe just because I'm a pretty rabid Adrian Vandenberg fan (at least in his early "solo" career)?

I don't like the radio version as much as the album version. It's a tad too pop-ish for my tastes...

However, I think the Huff solo blows away the Vandenberg solo. I've seen vandenberg live a handful of times...and I've got his solo stuff, so it's not like I'm ripping the guy. He's got game...but I've never completely liked the solo he did on HIGA. I was trying to put a finger on why and I think I has alot to do with the tone and melodic approach. You've got 10 or so songs, and 9 of them have a certain tonality to them...and there's this one sore thumb sticking out with a midrange heavy tone...and it's melodically constructed way differently than what Sykes would have done.

Now this is nit picking, and I know that...but I usually listen to albums, not individual songs...so when I listen to 1987, I get uneasy at the HIGA solo...always have. Should vandenberg have a right to able to put his stamp on song that he plays a solo on? Sure as sh*t! If I were in the same boat, I would have done the same thing...I would have made sure that one song with my one solo on it sounded like me...and John Sykes be damned.

However, the guitar playing listener in me feels the album trips up during that one solo. It's like watching a pitcher throw a perfect game ...but one of the pitches thrown was a wild pitch 10 feet behind the batters head.

I don't like the radio version either, never have. Like said, it's too poppy. I'm not that nitpicky of who played on what and who's was better than who's because in the end, it's on the radio and nothing I've done is/was. They both have a one up on any of us. ;)

This we are in 100% agreement with! :D The solo, despite it's merits is out of place on the song and on the album. I think the tone, moreso than the playing is the issue for me...and I'm a Marshall guy! :D
