i use monster jazz and a studio 1000

a few years ago i tried every cable guitar center had. the monster jazz was the best sounding cable. yes its silly to pay $60 for a cable (the 12' studio 1000 was $100) but as long as you dont lose it, you only need to do it once and i really did notice a difference. they didnt have the studio cable when i did the test and i got that from a friend of mine.

Amen brother, go tell it on a mountain. A few weeks ago I was praising Monster SP1000 cables and was told the GC sales guys must love to see me coming. I have a 21' and two 12's for my set up and I have ZERO loss and total clarity with those cables. In my mind they're totally worth the expenditure.

Re: Reccomend good cable

The warranty is about all the Monster product has going for it. If you bust a lot of cables, go for it, but get the CHEAPEST one they make. $60 isn't too bad (you're still paying an insane mark-up on it), but those Studio Pro cables are a massive waste of money IMO.

I learned all about Monster working at an electronics/home theater shop. First of all, there's at least a 50% margin at retail, meaning if you pay $200 for your cable, the store is making $100. For comparison's sake, the margin on a $200 Squier Strat is around 5-10%. Given that, it's no wonder stores love to push Monster. I also learned that other than the warranty, there is no appreciable difference between the Monster cables and the high end Electrohome cables we also sold. Of course, the sales guys never mentioned that to the customers. ;)

I am not saying they're not great cables - they clearly are. I just don't think they're worth the ridiculous prices.

I would also highly recommend GeorgeL's for the pedalboard... got rid of A LOT of noise that way

I tried GeorgeL for the long run, but they kink up too easily... I went back to my Planet Waves for that

h8red442, dude, you need to calm down and stop taking this personally. I never said you won't get an improvement with the Studio Pros, I just think it's not worth the outrageous price.

Tell you what: I'll go down to Long & McQuade today and ask to try some cables, including the one you have. If I agree that there's hundreds of dollars worth of improvement there, I will come back here and tell everyone you are right and I'm wrong. Hell, I may even buy one. If they are as good as you say they are, I might as well, right?

Also, I don't really get your line of reasoning re. home theater vs. guitar cables. They both accomplish the same thing: send a quiet audio signal over a certain distance. Why would you be able to notice a difference with one and not the other?

Re: Reccomend good cable

I've owned Monster Cables, Planet Waves and a few wireless units.

With that said I use cable I bought in bulk from MARS music and either Radio Shack connectors if I need them to be 90 degrees or ProCo connectors if it's a straight run.

Total cost for a 20 footer is under ten bucks.....

Premium cables are a waste of money. For the minor advantages folks seem to hallucinate as a result of paying for something like the Monster Warranty it just seems silly to pay THAT much for such minor upgrades in materials.

Making your own cables also means that you have the ability to troubleshoot them more effectively as well as build them as beefy as you feel you need to.

When a cable goes out you don't have to freak out looking for a replacement. You just grab a pocket knife and fix the problem.
