Recommend a new rock/metal guitar!!

Re: Recommend a new rock/metal guitar!!

can they do that? sell guitars for over the MSRP? which jackson model are you talkinga bout? The only USA Jackson I know that has an MSRP close to 3 grand is the SL-2H MAH.

Re: Recommend a new rock/metal guitar!!

I would totally buy the parts and put your own guitar together. Even if you have to pay someone to do some of the work for you, you'll most likely get a much, much nicer guitar than what you could buy a manufactured one for.

Stew Mac Strat Body = $195
Warmouth Neck = $200
Original Floyd Rose = $200
Two Seymour Duncans = $160
Sperzel locking tuners = $55
Misc. electronics, knobs, etc. = $75

About $900 plus labor for a guitar that will kick other guitar's asses around the block!

Re: Recommend a new rock/metal guitar!!

ESP Horizon guitars are really nice and you can get expensive ones that are bolts, lol.

I'm sure theres some sort of import tax thing going on. Thats why I would recommend trying to find a seller on ebay who will ship internationally and packages extremely well.

Re: Recommend a new rock/metal guitar!!

Maybe you can get something similar to Ben's TOC. Gajic guitar..
all maple body, bolt-on (I think)... HS setup. Not sure about the price. Check the tips and clips for a sound file.

Re: Recommend a new rock/metal guitar!!

How about the Yamaha Ty Tabor signature model?

Otherwise, yeah, I'd probably recommend an Ibanez RG based on european pricing.

What about a local luthier though?

How about a double cutaway les paul if you don't like the les paul?

Well, they're quite similar to my SG. Thanks guys, but I'd rather have something different!

I actually misread your first post. I thought you said those (DK-2, SG, etc.) were the guitars you were considering. That's what I meant by get the Jackson. I'm surprised and sad to hear that Soloists are so expensive over there. I understand that they're a little higher in Europe, but I got mine for US $1300 brand new.

As for something different than what you've got, you might take a look at Godin guitars (h8red mention Seagull - part of the same company). I don't know if they deal over there or not, but they're nice guitars with several different styles (some even with SD pups) and reasonably priced, IMO.

Ok, thanks! I'll have a look at those.

The MSRP you see over there is for the US only. When brought here, you have to count for shipping, tax and customs, which is about 25% extra. Then the importer, fender scandinavia/europe has to feed their people. Then the local importer has to ship the guitars in Europe, and feed his own people. Then the local shop has to get the guitars to them, and, surprisingly feed their people. Then you get those horrible prices!

Well, it's hard to know who packages extremely well on ebay. It's also a lot more difficult, expensive and time consuming to pay for the guitar. It's also a hell of a bigger risk for the buyer, me, if something **** comes my way I'm quite a many miles away. I'd rather not.

Thanks guys, anything more on your mind?

Thanks for the idea, but it's a lot more difficult to do over here. First of all, we don't have any big retailers on guitar necks and bodies. I'd have to order from Warmoth. Your prices on pups and hardware are also US prices. I'd have to pay 200€ for a FR and another 200€ for the pups here, for example. It's a lot more expensive. The exchange rate isn't so much in my favour anymore either, it's about 1,2$ for one € now.

Thanks again for that, it's something to consider if parts come available, can you think of anything else?

I bet they're nice, but they're a little out of my budget. I think that they go for 1500€ at their cheapest. They're a lot cheaper than Jacksons here, but not enough. Even more, I could get a custom from a local luthier for that price.

Thanks! Did you have something else on your mind!?

It would be something I'm looking for, but I'm not sure about the price either! It would be damn nice, but all the custom work I've seen over here is really quite expensive. The only exception is www.ranguitars.com in Poland, which I'm considering carefully at the moment.

Thanks man, any more ideas!?

Jackson soloist

Let's hope one drops on my doorstep from the sky, shall we!? A real USA/CS Jackson/Charvel is one of my guitar dreams, which may well become true in a couple of years, but I'm not wealthy enough for it yet.

Thanks, and that's quite a good quote you have in your sig! Very well said! Can you think of any other guitars you could recommend for me?

how abt schecter?

+1 on the Schecter.

Schecter new plus Seymour Duncan Upgrades=Much better guitar than RG for money IMO.

If you want a hardtail go for the C1-Blackjack or the C1-Elite and change the Pups. If you want a Floyd check out the C1-FR.

Hmm, that would be in my price range and is somewhat interesting. I've also been looking at Yamaha before as they're such a quality brand and reasonably priced, also. That specific models does, though, remind me quite a lot of my Jackson. Both have a bolt-on HSS setup. I'll have to try to find one in a local shop to really have a try at it!

Well, a used maple-boarded one would be quite nice and I'd jump on it. Haven't seen them in a while, though. The new ones feel too much like my Jackson, and the really nice models are a bit out of my price range.

It's something to consider. It just costs 500€ extra! So I'm afraid it's out of the picture right now.

Thanks for your suggestions! Any more?

Thanks! They do look interesting, the C1-FR especially, but why won't any of their models have ebony or maple fingerboards!? Still, they look quite nice and I'll have to go and have a look at them in a local shop. It's strange that some big european shops don't carry them. Thanks for your thoughts again, I'll have a look, can you think of some other guitars as well?

BC Rich Classic Series Bich, Mockingbird or Seagull?

I'd really like a nice Mockingbird, it's always been one of my favourite designs! I haven't seen those classic-series guitars here in Europe yet, are they something new? I'll keep an eye open for them!

LTD (ESP) makes some really nice stuff for that money too in either 6 or 7 string. If you went LTD you probably go ape sh*t with $1200 and get something nice and tricked out.

I guess I'll have to test them out again. The LTD Deluxe is something that would fit in my price range, and they do really have excellent hardware. It's a shame that they spoil their guitars with those fancy tops and bindings, though! I guess I'll have to visit the importer when I go see Testament, Accept, Gamma Ray, Destruction etc. this weekend!

Thanks! More ideas?

The 400 range (almost the same) are like the deluxes but without the sparkly binding (if that's what the problem is).
You could get a good LTD with Duncans for that price
