Recommend a solution. Amps/Cabs.

Ok, so I have my Classic 30. I love the sound. It works great for practice with my band. We've got a few songs and we're gonna be gigging soon. Practicing with my band though, the C30 gets nearly cranked and I'm worried about not having enough power to gig. I'm not running a 4x12 though. If I drove a 412 with the C30 would I get a big increase in volume or am I gonna need a head?

What do you think?

Well. My drummer has a PA. It's not very big though. I don't know what the systems are like in the places we'll be playing.

Good idea, if the conditions are right.

Any other suggestions?

A bigger cab with more speakers will help. If you really want to up your volume (without changing your amp) make sure that you get speakers with a high efficiency rating.

You always need to mike everything and run it thru the PA. This simply is going to give you better balance of the overall sound of the band. The drummer will need the most mikes. One for the Bass drum and a few over the toms and cymbals. The bass needs one on the amp as well as all other instruments. Then vocals. A good sound guy will be able to mix it all to make everything sound right. They can boost yoour volume when solos are coming and everything. The other thing you will need is a few monitors. Usually the club has them already set up, but you need to have monitors so you can hear each other properly. The worst is not being able to hear the rest of the band because everybody it playing to loud! Its all about balance not volume!

I've gigged with a C30 a fair bit... I found useing an amp stand that tilts the amp back like a monitor helps me to hear it much better.... I have a few stands made by Genesis that not only tilt a 1x12 combo back it also allows a mic boom to be screwed to it so it doubles as a mic holder..

What i did too was use a 1x12 extention cab for some gigs and use the extention cab on the stand and keep my combo faceing forward so i could get at the controlls easier... it was a sealed back extention cab that added some more low end and volume... it was nice..
