Recommend me a new Amp :)

ok heres the story,

After being away from the forum for a while due to my new bmx hobby, i thought it was time to come back to my first love, guitars. So since my last visit i have just been playing casually, now i would like to get right back into it.

After using my dads old acoustic amp with a digitech multi effects unit, the tones have become really bland and computerised. So i pose the question: christmas is coming up so i will be coming into some more money and i want to buy myself a decent sounding amp that will give me some good tones and fun times.

I currently play a MIM strat with an invader in the bridge and i would like to take advantige of its tonal capabilities.

So what im really saying is i need to find a decent sounding amp that can be had for $700-$1000 Australian, i was looking at tube amps (rectifiers in particular, but these are out of my reach). I think i prefer the sound of tubes more.

Ok ive already said enough, So please use ur expertise and recommend me an amp.

All replies much appreiciated

Thanks :)

Re: Recommend me a new Amp :)

Ah yea sorry i probably should have said that in my first post

well i like classic rock, punk-pop, punk rock sorta stuff

im not really looking for shimmering cleans but decent enough. So a dirtier amp will probably be more appropriate as im looking for those big fat heavy tones.

thanks :)

Re: Recommend me a new Amp :)

I'm not sure iff'n yer more into British or American sounds, but I'd check out the Orange Tiny Terror. At least, I hope they're available in Australia.

Re: Recommend me a new Amp :)

then dude, go for a 6505 plus or a used 5150II, US kinda sound, cheap, and not a huge clean sound but decent... and i asure you, you´ll like the sound of this amp for punk, hard rock, and metal styles...

Re: Recommend me a new Amp :)

I would check out a ENGL Screamer Combo.

They should be able to get used at you.

They have nice cleans, the crunch channel is very good for AC/DC kinda stuff, the two lead channels can take you into Rock-> Death Metal gain wise.

Listen to some of Marinblues clips where he used a Screamer, to add contrast, I use that same amp for old school heavy metal, with pretty good results.

I'll +1 this statement.

Though you're not going to get alot of clean headroom with an invader.

Re: Recommend me a new Amp :)

Thanks for the ideas everyone ill be sure to check out some of those amps

and yes memphis i understand that i wont get much clean headroom with the invader. I already have to deal with this on my current amp but its not that bad, i just roll down the volume abit and its all gravy.

thanks alot everyone :)

Re: Recommend me a new Amp :)

if you were looking at rectifiers, may i suggest looking at a used rectoverb combo? i dunno how easy it is to find them in your area, but i was able to pick one up a couple years ago for $800 US, and they go for that all day on ebay. theyre great amps, very reliable, built like tanks.
