Beat me to it. Both the Green Rhino and the Custom Badass are great pedals (I own the MXR), but not really what the OP is looking for.

Rocktron Austin Gold is a very fun, non TS type. Supposed to be a knockoff of the KLON. Very little hair on the notes even with the gain cranked, and it really does do the "more from your amp" thing.

Choices choices choices.. Based on PGS demos the OCD sounds really cool. I haven't really gotten the time to check the rest out yet. Never even thought about owning a EHX overdrive but the Germanium OD sounds interesting... What about Barber's LTD or Direct Drive? Both of them go for about 130$. Has anybody got any experience with them?

The Crimson Drive is Germanium too; transistors and diodes.

Maybe look at some boosters that can get dirty like the EP booster and AC booster by Xotic or the bigger AC Plus along with the BB preamp thats been suggest. Maybe something along the vein of a Chandler Tube Driver. Different kinda stuff would be Wamplers lower gain pedals like Plexi-Drive, Hot Wired and Tweed 57 (all capable of distortion tones as well but can handle lower gain)

I was looking for the same thing (low gain, no mid hump) and found it in the Barber 1/2 Gainer. Wonderful pedal! I believe it has now replaced the LTD in their lineup since it's basically all the versions of the LTD in one box.
