Recommend me a Strat Set

They may have for special bulk orders in the past, but not now.

That would be a cool story for a forum pup. A guy doesn't want to spend full custom shop prices on a pickup set designed for him, so he convinces 20+ other people to buy one too.

I was actually about to start a thread asking the same thing, so I'd appreciate to here you guys opinions.

I've heard a Stk S7n, S4m, and S6b is pretty popular on here, which is pretty similar to to the ssl1/ssl1/ssl5 set, except the neck is overwound a tad and there is no noise. This is what I'm looking to get, but I'd appreciate some more feedback before I seal the deal.
I would personally go STK-S4n, STK-S4m and STK-S7b.

Hmm... $450 for a set of singles is quite a bit for the SDCS, but since most single coil sets cost $300 I guess it's not too bad. Any options on the cheaper side?
In my MIM I have a set of Rose hand wound single-coils that I got for $90. A bit more vintage than SSL-1. Robusta neck and middle with a bit hotter Buff Beauty bridge for balancing with neck and middle. Very nice for the price.

Does anyone know about the 5-2 Tele bridge? I've always preferred a Tele sound to a Strat bridge sound. Also would it count as a shop floor custom to get a white Tele bridge?

Never tried the Five Two Tele, but the Five Two Strat is my favorite true singe coil Strat pickup.

I think I will look into that. Of course now I have a Broadcaster bridge pickup that has been added to the mix :33:

The problem would be you would have 4 positions without noise and 1 position with noise. I think it would be best to put the Broadcaster in its own instrument or trade it for a pickup that you do want.

I'm thinking I'm pretty sold on the 5-2 Stack idea, but the question is, if I'm paying $450 for a set of pickups, I' m for sure going to get them customized. I've never been a big A5 fan, so maybe a 4-2 Stack might be the thing for me, as well as possible add a tap into the bridge pickup so that the middle/bridge position doesn't suffer from having an overwound bridge pickup. Or maybe even a 5-4-2 pickup with each magnet going to two strings?

Give me ideas if you have any, I haven't had a set of single coils in a while

You're not an A5 fan for Strat pickups? (I thought most current production are A5 rods?) I would talk to the CS shop about what sound you want, then let them tell you the recipe that will get there. For example, they recently released the Lara Basilio set which has a 5-2 in the middle and 5-4 in the neck. Keep in mind, the A5 rods are only on the bass strings. Are you saying to don't like how Strat bass strings sound these days?

I've found that most low wind strat pickups sound great to me . . . as long as they're flat stagger. The vintage stagger makes the strings all out of balance with each other and it really bugs me.

That's something I was considering as well. Plus it looks better if you ask me

You know, come to think of it, I guess I've let my distaste for A5s in humbuckers blind me to their utility in Strats. They really are entirely different animals. I would be tempted to ask for a more "calibrated" set of magnets if they thought they could make it work well, but I don't want to ask for a weird pickup just for the sake of having a weird pickup.

I will say however, in terms of concept A5/A4 neck, A5/A2 middle, A4/UOA5 bridge would be pretty cool on paper. No idea if it would actually work at all though. Probably just gonna let the CS team work it out

Actually 5/4 neck, 5/2 middle, 4/2 bridge seems hella cool, doesn't deviate too far from what they know works, and convientiently has each magnet appear twice.

Also not to spam my own thread, but SD and MJ are two of the big name winders at the CS, is there a third big name?

As far as I know, Derek also works in the Custom Shop sometimes. He was doing the Charlie Christian pickup years back. I don't know what others he works on, however.
