Jeff H, I just realised that you are looking to get one of your existing guitars treated. There are some folks that do great work in this area and there are alot of people that don't know what they are doing. Just be sure to be clear on what you want and more importantly what you don't want.

jeff, i'll relic it for you...seriously...although it takes about 10 years or so b/c i do it the real way lol. so send me the guitar and i'll start relicing it each day. :laugh2:

on a serious not you can check it real easy my luthier gave me a tip on that send me a PM.

Mike....I'll agree to let you relic my LP for a while, if you agree to sell me that JMP. You don't use it anyhow, and a little $$ will make the guilt of selling it better. Besides, an amp like that isn't meant to just sit. Let me take it to Scott Splawn and make it what it's supposed to be.

Yeah, there are a couple of places that I have researched that do nice quality work. I really haven't decided if this is what I want to do, but every time I see a vintage guitar with a nicely checked finish I just drool. I'll never be able to afford a real 59' LP.

if i could sell it i would certianly sell it to you! or trade for your goldtop hehehe. however perhaps off to splawn or voodoo it will go for some high gain mods. heck if they do good work it could end up #1....who knows.

I would really like one of Tom Murphy's LP's. Or anyone as good as him. I sure as hell can't afford an authentic '58 or '59, and this would get me real close.

I had enough hand-me-downs, and second-hand stuff when I was growing up. I like my guitars to look good. (New) If I had bought SRV's Strat, I'd probably have had it re-finished. :laugh2:

Its just a matter of whether its a knick-knack, or a musical instrument.

If someone buys a vintage all original 1962 strat that has all the age and wear of a 43 year old guitar, should the buyer be ashamed to play the guitar because he/she didn't devote their life to putting the dings in it themselves? Should they have the guitar stripped and refitted with new hardware so they'll be starting from scratch (pun intended). Me playing a guitar that was bought new, used, shiney, reliced, fricasseed or deep fried can in no way take anything away from what another person does/did with their devoted instrument.

Chances are a pro musician couldn't have afforded it And then it would end up in a glass case, never played. However, *someone* was playing that guitar at some time.
But I never understood buying really old guitars anyway. I like newere ones that actually work the way I want them to.

I LOVE the look of a 30+ year old axe that has been PLAYED carefully, not beaten up.

It's just the look and feel of a sligtly cracked finish, aged "creamed" plastic, oxizided crome, and the really "Broken in" neck that turns me on; not a new guitar full of dings and scratches .

Jeff, Lucky for you I don't do relicing. But if you want? I can tie your
guitar to my bumper and drive around the block a few times. :laugh2:

is a product made by Behlen called crackle Lacquer.( Never used it)
When it dries it's suposed to srink and crack giving the apearance
of a 40 year old finish? my buddy has a tele he wants to make
into a Nocaster. He wants it to look like a closet classic So I Might
try it on his guitar and see how it works?

I dunno, I like aged hardware like pickup covers and knobs, but I'm not big on the relic'd finishes. I like my guitars to look new, just letting them wear over time. I'm a little rough with my stuff anyway, so they get broken in. I'm not against relic'd finishes if you like them though.

Well I think it dumb, but maybe dumber if you buy them. Now I realize that they go through a lot of care doing this and use quailty material. But who came up with the idea? Some big wig thinking maybe we can sell anything........well I guess they can. I personally think an axe should age with time. The cost are close to the age one's. Liquor is better aged....Hey to each his own!

Yea! Don't they have thay Artifucial Aging Compound on the same isle as the Cooking Glue!! LOL

I like the aged look and style that for sure!! Seemed to save little $$$ on guitar wax too when its broken in then!

I personally wouldn't do it to any of my guitars, but it dosen't bother me if other people do it as long as it's not to try to pass it off as an 40 year old guitar. If you think it looks cool why not do it. I don't know it just seems like it gives it more personality if it's natural.

I love the look of old guitars, particulalry old strats, but I agree that artiffically doing it is kinda weird. Mojo is mojo and it comes from being mojo'd! I do lament the fact that my 5 year old strat looks almost brand new even though I've practice and gigged on it a lot. Maybe I should drink more coffee so I'm more corrosive! The thought of rubbing it down a little with something has crossed my mind...maybe I'll just wear a wool jacket when I play or something....
